Personal Narrative: After My Academic Scholarship

As a general contractor, my father exceeds the standards of a hard, dedicated worker. However, he will not be able to pay entirely for my college education. My father is a member of Laborers Local 942 in Fairbanks, Alaska, and while he has not worked for them directly in some time, my mother is currently seasonally employed with them. Her financial contributions have provided myself some small luxuries, but have not been plentiful enough to provide towards educational costs. I have been paying my way through school thus far with scholarship money, and if necessary, funds from my part-time job at the UAS Financial Aid Office.
As of now, I am a recipient of the UA Scholars Scholarship, Alaska Performance Scholarship, for the first time this year, the Federal Pell Grant. I have also received other UAS-specific, merit-based scholarships. In the past, after my scholarship money has been applied, my father has paid the remaining balance on my account out of pocket. I have yet to take out a student loan, and so long as I can avoid that, I plan to.

I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship awards I have received thus far, but I fear that they will not be enough to further complete my education. Therefore, I would be profoundly grateful for any financial contributions I could be awarded.
As it stands, the cost of my attendance for my first semester at UAF is close to $7,500. This is substantially higher than what my father and I have been putting towards UAS costs. This past spring semester at UAS, my bill came to $6,000. Therefore, I am hoping to lighten my family’s financial burden by applying for your scholarship this

To the donors of the Hansen Memorial Scholarship, I am a second generation college student, and I am always incredibly thankful for the tireless push of my parents to attain higher education, but that push has never been enough to obtain education alone. My family lived and worked in a tourist town for 10 years, and when the economic recession hit, it hit us particularly hard. We were forced to sell our home and go into bankruptcy, and my sister and I lost most of our college funds. It is because of this that I am so incredibly grateful for the donor funded scholarships that you and others have so graciously awarded me.…

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

Achieving the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship would benefit my family tremendously since I am planning to go to the University of St. Thomas in Houston which is a private 4-year university meaning it will costly compare to public postsecondary institutions. Additionally, the scholarship provides a 5,000 dollar four-year renewable scholarship and it will be a great financial assistance towards my tuition to strive for Bachelor’s degree. I need this scholarship to help me fund for my attendance to college. Due to my parent’s income, I will not receive a substantial amount of financial aid because their income range is not considered to be financially need based which many scholarships look for. Therefore, while searching for scholarships, when I see a scholarship requirement…

In my life, my family has tended to have some financial issues. I do not want to delve deeply into them, but I do want to say that we could use any help we can get when it comes to scholarships. Even though I do plan on attending a fairly cheap (compared to other colleges) community college. This college is NICC because I heard that it has a nice engineering program and that is what I plan on doing when I am older. I think that a nice and cheap community college would still produce problems in my families income which is why I think that any scholarships would benefit greatly.…
