Personal Narrative: After Graduating Emge Jr.

Improved Essays
After graduating Emge Jr. High, I attended West. On the first day of school I was scared because my old school wasn’t really big and for sure did not have as many people. As I went through my day everything ended up better and I realized it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. It was more my head making me think that.
Freshman year was ok. I was scared at the fact that I didn’t know anyone and that I would lose most of my friends. I had great teachers and made many new friends. We got picked on by the upperclassmen since we were the youngest in the school, but we didn’t let it bother us. Many teachers suggested everyone to get involved in school so, I joined Maroon Madness and went to many football games.
Sophomore year I was happy that I wasn’t

From what I remember about my life as a youth, in terms of socialization, was an exposure to both concerted cultivation and the accomplishment of self-growth as explained by Annette Lareaus study of Unequal Childhoods: class, Race, and Family Life. The reason I feel I was exposed to both is because I feel my mom attempted to give my brother and I a concerted cultivation life of structure, schedule, and activities but there were road blocks that didn’t allow her to implement this teaching in prime years of my development. Lareaus talked about the big effect that a parent’s education level plays on the child’s life. Growing up I only had a mother and although she didn’t make it past her sophomore year of high school she later enlisted in the…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…
