Personal Narrative: Advanced Placement Chemistry

Decent Essays
When my senior year of high school started, I knew it was going to fly by quick. My grades were always perfect so I knew I had nothing to worry about. I took a bulk of rigorous classes. It was necessary that I took eight classes, and four of them were Advance Placement courses, and one was one duel enrolment. The other three were core curriculum courses. It sounds like way too much, but it was fairly easy. However, there was one course that always stressed me out, Advance Placement Chemistry 2. The first week in that class was extremely simple. We had our first chapter test that Friday. I worked on the test, showed my work, and went back to rework certain problems. I was extremely confident with my work. The next time I went to the class,

A common question throughout students and teachers worldwide is, is intelligence something that is fixed or something that can grow or change? In the article “Brainology” by Carol Dweck we learn the process of how students learn to have a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset and how it affects their learning. It is believed that parents who praise their child for being smart in general tend to have a fixed mindset and those parents who praise their child for the hard work they did tend to have a growth mindset. Those with a fixed mindset tend to believe that intelligence is fixed and it can not be changed no matter how hard you try. Growth mindsets tend to believe intelligence is something that can be cultivated so that the harder they work…

She and I If someone asks me, what kind of person, I am in Elementry school, I will tell them, I used to be the worst students in the whole school. Whenever I go to school, I fight with other people and hurt them. All the teachers know me because they all stop me from bullying other students. and I was mentally exhausted from all the work I had put in. I was very thankful that my teacher helped me succeed. I worked with him and did a lot of extra work, and studied incredibly hard, and within 4 weeks, I was able to raise my grade 11%. This was the class I had always been terrified about. I didn’t think I could do it, because in the past science hadn’t been my strong suit.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

The kind of storms I see coming this semester is when we have game day which pull me out of my Chemistry class. In order to make it on time to my games I will miss 8 classes out of 19. Depending on what time we leave I will have to make up quiz in the Student Success Center. I cannot drop out of Chemistry because it will put me behind on my schedule to graduate. I am very hopeful that it will get easier when volleyball is over because I can participate in class lectures.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

Through my four years in high school, one of the toughest classes I faced was AP biology. The rigorous course involved an intense 48 chapter lesson plan with a 2 hour AP exam at the end of the school year. Near the end of my junior, I was skeptical of taking this class, as I heard from my fellow classmates that the class was difficult to earn a decent grade. With this in mind, I began preparing for the class over the summer by reading the textbook, and practicing using the workbook. As I read the book, I became deeply interested in this subject.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

I was unfamiliar with the process of choosing the order of courses that would transition me to graduation. As a result, I took several non-required courses, and I even took some of the needed courses, for my degree, out of order. Needless to say, I hit an academic wall that lasted five long semesters. It would have been easier for me to change majors for the sake of graduation, but being in such a predicament only sharpened my perseverance and molded my determination. While these academic complications seemed unbearable at the time, my senior year turned out to be my most challenging year.…
