Personal Narrative: Adoption At Home

Improved Essays
My mother, Amanda, was adopted at birth. She has always looked for her biological mother, but had always hit dead ends. About ten years ago, I started to become very curious as well. We knew her name, where she lived when we was pregnant with my mother, and all the information on my mom’s birth certificate. After many years of searching, we gave up.
Last year while in a study group for an accounting exam, somehow the subject of adoption came up. Everyone in the group, coincidently, was either adopted or their parents were adopted; it was strange! For some reason, that sparked my quest to look for Katherine, my biological grandmother, again. I went home and immediately started looking. My mom had a picture of her birth mom’s senior picture. On the back, it said, “Travis County Airforce Base”. A light bulb went off and I started to look for all the high schools near that air force base; I found four. I did an online search of all the yearbooks until I finally found her senior picture. It was an incredible feeling for me, and I cannot imagine how my mom felt. She went by her married name and it started to make sense why we could never find her. We did a search on her and found a listed phone number. My mom was too nervous to call, so we waited until the next day. She was still too nervous so I made the

It’s the same Ida Bright that was listed in the 1880 census. E.M. McCray would have known her grandparents. Throughout the beginning of the story, she has no idea who her father is. While I have known my father for my whole life i have known of people who have never met their own fathers, and i can understand what confusion she must have felt as a young child.…

It seems as if my grandmother’s parents died at an early age, or just were not that well know throughout their lifetimes. The only information I have been provided through interviews with relatives, is that my great-grandmother’s name is Lestha Spencer, which ultimately means that my great-grandfather’s last name is Walker. Birthdates, death dates, and places lived are all unavailable, and I have utilized “ancestry.com” for support, and yet, still no information. Although, my family is large in numbers, somehow and for some reason relatives only know meager to no information about my grandmother’s parents.…
