Personal Narrative: Adopting A Dog

Improved Essays
For the longest time I have always wanted to have a puppy, so I would ask my dad in the nicest way possible, “Can we pretty please get a puppy?” Until now, he would always respond, “No! You’re not responsible enough, Sam.” I believe my dad did not want to adopt a dog because when he was younger he owned one, and the dog died. I figured that made him really depressed, and he did not want me going through the same situation. I was frustrated that he did not trust me, but I eventually realized he did not want the same situation happen to me. Today, when I asked him, “Dad, can we please adopt a dog? I will take care of him like a baby.”
“If you promise that you will not neglect him,” he paused for a second and said, “I guess we can adopt a dog.”

When we arrived, I instantly knew I had to adopt the biggest and most energetic puppy in the middle of the room because he reminded me of myself. The pup was about the size of a five year old boy, had soft beige fur that felt like clouds when I pet him, and weighed at least 25 pounds. He was exceptionally heavy for being only five months old, I thought to myself. “I want to adopt him,” I told my dad excitedly, “He’s going to be my best buddy!” The moment I said buddy, he barked excitedly. After six years had passed, I fed Buddy the best food, gave him plenty of exercise, made sure he got the shots he needed, and we visited the vet regularly just like I promised my dad all those years ago. But he still got extremely sick even though I took care of him like a baby. “Dad, I think Buddy needs to see the vet.” I

One of the biggest decisions someone could ever do is whether to adopt a dog from a rescue group or buy a puppy from a breeder. There are several major differences to consider before making a final choice. While both are viable options, the differences and similarities between adopting and purchasing animals are pronounced and deserve a thorough investigation before choosing the right course of action for your lifestyle. Three of the major variations between adopting and purchasing dogs are the health, price, and complicity of taking it home. With a rescue dog the specific breed of the dog may be unknown, but at least the rescue will be able to provide the type of personality it has.…

I stumble into the house, not concerned about my absence - my presence in the household did not have high expectations, if any. My body takes me straight to the cabinet of booze; a disgrace of a liquor cabinet if you ask me. Shelves of empty bottles, maybe a quarter of the way filled if I am lucky. I continue to search the cabinet, examining a bottle here or there, before I am interrupted ( maybe for the better). “I promise!”…

If there’s one thing I should have learned by now but haven’t learned yet, it’s balance. By balance I do not mean being able to stand on one foot without falling in a petty amount of seconds, but yes, I should have probably learned that by now also. The type of balance I’m talking about is more time management based. It sounds very cliche, but everybody makes this kind of mistake every once in awhile, I unfortunately make this mistake all the time, but there’s one very memorable time that always will stick out to me. “Please please please,” I begged to my parents.…
