He began his first round of treatments immediately. The same week of his diagnosis was also the same time of National Cheer competition for me in Orange Beach, Alabama. I remember him telling me that he was going to be in the hospital during my big weekend, but for me to cheer harder, louder, and prouder than I ever had. All I could do was cry because my daddy wouldn’t see our competition squad compete for a national title. My dad kept encouraging me to do my best and for me to not think too much about his situation. Today, I feel that I am a responsible young adult because of the adventures during this trying time in our lives. I had to make sure the family laundry was done, grocery lists were made, and had to make sure our family schedule was updated daily. Since my mom wasn’t home very much because of her school and being at the hospital with my daddy, I learned how to cook and am proud that I can cook just about anything as long as I have a recipe to go by. I also made sure I did the best I could in the classroom as well. My parents had so many other things to worry about, I didn’t want them to worry about my schoolwork and my grades. When I had time, I studied extra hard and sometimes I fell asleep
