Personal Narrative: Acting Like A Woman

Decent Essays
I was standing at the desk of CRC waiting for Henderson to come back off of his 10 min break. Once he walked in I asked him are you back off your break he turns around in a nasty tone and say's I'm standing here right. So I turned around and said to him you don't have to get smart with me ok. He turns around and says you can leave as I was already walking towards the front door so I turned around and said you need to start acting like a man instead of acting like a girl. He then says to me you need to act like a woman...., I was already walking out the door by the time he started his statement so I did not here the rest of what he said.

My parents were both in the military. My father has recently retired after twenty years in the United States Marine Corps, while my mother is still currently serving in the United States Air Force Reserve. I grew up under the impression that men and women are virtually the same in nearly every regard and should be treated as such in every situation. This belief was held primarily because of this military influence, in addition to my parents’ personal appearances. Both had very short hair, slight builds, similar heights, and most notably I never saw my mother or my father wearing gendered clothing when not in military garb.…

The earliest I can remember learning that my gender was different and treated differently from someone else’s was probably when I was five or six years old. I always had to wear a dress or an outfit that was always pink. I had to play with dolls and only do things that little girls would normally do and I of course noticed that boys didn’t have to do anything similar to me so I realized that I was being treated differently simply because I was a girl.…

Trump goes on and talks about how he has had a great relationship with the black African Americans but when black people attended his “Make America Great Again” protest and disagreed with what he was saying he kicked them out along with allowing them to get physically and verbally abused on their way out. He’s discriminating against race, sexual orientation and religion, he has said countless of times how he wants to build a wall to stop the “Mexicans” from coming in, how he wants to take down the “Muslims and ISIS”, ban gay marriage, and how he’d punish women for having abortions.…

When asked to define myself in one paper, I find it hard to show the details that I want to in the right light. When asked about my future after high school, I also have a hard time describing everything I want to get done because there are far too many things to name. The quote “ _____” (i want to be everyone and do everything and there isn’t enough life to do it all in) describes me to a tee, and I believe this college is the place I could do this in. Being a shy person for most of my life, many things were difficult for me. Specifically, last summer I had the opportunity for a summer job.…

Over the last ten year I have grown into a very independent woman. Ten years ago I was 13 years old and pretty much dependent on my parents for transportation, food, and money. Although, I was young and still dependent on my parents they made sure to give me responsibility at a young age. Looking back then to now I see the world and people in a totally different way.…

Coming out isn’t ever painless, but in the end it’s worthwhile. On October 10, 2015 I came out to my friends as a lesbian. It took over three years to mustard up the courage to accept myself. The moment I realized I was “different” I immediately block the notion from my head and reframed from it for over two years. I allowed myself to believe the lie I fictitious, until the point I could no longer function.…

I met strangers who eventually became great friends and sisters, they give me advice, a shoulder to cry on, they were the cheerleaders along the way edging me to keep my going going further , they gave me strength, optimism and support, they inspired me but most of all they understood fully what I was going through , not because they were clever or read up on broken and battered women , they have been there before ,just like me .They even understood when I told them I still loved Daniel , that's how sweet they were .My friends were the rose petals the wind had spontaneously blown onto my dusty road, they experiences paved the road for me making it so much easier and for that I will forever be grateful . I am a girl, and because of this it has been impossible to avoid the persecution and isolation that comes from sexism. Every situation I have experienced that have shaped me to be who I am I have experienced sexism. Due to the activities I was involved in, it was magnified because I chose to be a percussionist, a theater technician, an attorney for mock trial, and a member of debate club. These have all been historically male dominated communities. Yet still I overcame all of the negativity, and not only joined these activities but climbed to leadership positions and became prominent members of each group.…

Our girls team was being disrespected due to our body’s natural reaction to stress and being overworked. At that moment, the male teammate texted me a lengthy and sincere apology.…

In those few seconds, I knew we were going to be split up into girls and boys, however, I felt more accustomed to going with the guys then the girls, yet I stayed.
