Personal Narrative: Accept Without Judgment

3. Accept Without Judgment

Describe judgment; acceptance
I had it in my head that hiking would be easy. The hike started out easy, then t become harder and harder as the trail progressed up the mountain side. I did not prepare for the hike because I thought I do not need to spend money on fancy hiking shoes. I was dead wrong. While hiking up the mountain I began to accept that hiking is not easy. Though I do not need to spend lots of money on hiking equipment, I should definitely invest in a good pair of hiking shoes. It was wrong of me to judge something I had never experienced before. Accepting the realization of it all was an important part of the whole experience that I will never forget.

4. Action Toward Change

Intention/willingness; new perspective
My intentions were to hike up to Lake Twenty-Two. Though I did not know what to expect, I did think it was going to be easy and fun. The whole experience has given me a new perspective of hiking. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of it all. Though at times I was judgmental of the whole hiking thing, I did end up liking it. On my next hike in a couple weeks it will be a little hard to climb. My first hike has helped gain a new perspective of hiking and that I should enjoy the scenery. I definitely took that for granted and did not really pay attention as we walked. It was a lot to take

I took the whole hike for granted. It turned out to be a beautiful day, but I let little things cloud my mind. Once we made it to Lake Twenty-Two it was breath taking. I had seen photos of the hike before, but pictures do not do it justice. Once I finally took in the beauty of it all I was finally able to release the stress of it all. I know now on my next hike I can actually use the first hike as a way to make my next hike more enjoyable and calming. Also, I noticed I was really out of shape. Overall, I really enjoyed my mindful awareness reflection this

As mentioned earlier, it's really like walking on an escalator downhill. Definitely one of the longest day hikes I've been on. It was nine hours up, and a five hours down with 30 minutes on the summit. The original plan was to pack camp immediately after the descent and make for the trailhead and the truck.…

I had many powerful experiences during our field study trip to Cape Cod. It was a wonderful experience, and I learned so much in those five days. However, there were a few salient experiences I had that stood out among the others. About the time we were feeling our saddle sores from dealing with a particularly rough and narrow segment of the trail, our troop became stretched out more than usual. I recognized it, and debated whether to call for a rest stop or let things go because of my plan to confront the wayward Raiders. By peeking at my PDA, I could see we’d made reasonable progress. For now, I felt happy. I made my decision and clipped my tablet back on my belt, while the trail switched back on itself, opening up a much wider and pleasant stretch of trail.…

I woke up like any average morning. I got up to go see what we had to eat and to get a drink. I ended up making a strawberry Poptart and had a cup of water. As I was eating, I realized I hadn’t checked my phone at all. I saw that it was 9:00 am.…

Did I love the experience? Absolutely not. Not only was the path pretty un-scenic, but we were surrounded with stereotypical valley girl accents from all corners talking about Tinder dates and office gossip. On top of that, I had to de-crust my sneakers for about an entire five days; the dry dust had me feeling like I was experiencing the…

I would like to believe that I learned my personal ethics from my family more importantly my parents. Growing up my parents thought me many things that had several messages attached to them. Those messages I now use on a daily basis most importantly in my career. One of the ethics that I could remember is to be caring and loyal friend, neighbor, family, or co-worker. Having these two ethicses has guided me to the field of psychology and is still helping me.…

On Saturday April 25, at the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center (LBVESC) we, all the students from government class, had to go and help clean up the trail for Paso del Indio. We had three different groups some were helping with the plants and cutting the grass, for myself I had a spading fork and we would have to pick up remains from trees or other plants and place them on a wheelbarrow, then another group would come and take it form a trail for the visitors. Besides all the students, there was Mr. Miller and a supervisor that would tell us where to place the grass or what need to be cleaned up. Throughout the day we all mostly put out our energy and cleaned up the trail.…

The second day that we spent there a small group went hiking for six miles down to Moony Falls and beyond to the Beaver Dam. To get to Moony Falls we had to climb down this steep rocky area and part of it we had to go through some caves and had to climb down ladders. It was well worth it once we got to the bottom. We left the beautiful falls and continued on our adventure looking for the Beaver Dam. We had to hike through some small streams several times as well as the usual walking through the forest and on the trail.…

Our counselors had to scope out where our campsite was, which they finally found by a exquisite blue lake. It felt so good to empty our packs and stretch. After waking at midnight to start our summit in order to beat the possible rainstorms, we were off to climb Mt. Massive, the second tallest mountain in Colorado. Climbing rocks with heavy backpacks, crossing rivers, bushwhacking about 3 and a half miles, and dealing with heavy winds that almost blew us over, we finally found the trail!…

If you ever happen to catch me in a cut off you might see that on my left shoulder there is tattoo of mountains, pine trees, and five birds leading up to my collar bone. You might ask the meaning, or you might just tell me how much you like it and compliment the artist and ask me where I got it done or ask if I have any others. You might never see a goal as a reason to get a tattoo but Mountains are my goal. My family and I visited the Rocky Mountain National Park the summer after my Junior year in highschool. I had never seen a mountain before besides in pictures.…

As a group, it was interesting to exchange and debate in order to find our way. For instance, we had some trouble finding the CBC tour and the small lookout. We argued and looked at the map many times, as some thought we had skipped it and others were still looking for it… We tried to determine geographical landmarks in order to match the map with where we were at that moment in time. Besides, this first hike has been very useful for me, since I will certainly return to Mount Royal with friends and I will then feel now more familiar to the geography of the mountain and its surroundings.…

The possibility of getting lost in the woods does not sound exciting. I was surprised at how annoying it was to hear constant chatter on the trail. I wanted to sink into the calm and serene outdoors without interference. Although some conversation is pleasant, allowing time to relate to the nature and scenery is a big element of the hike for me. I have found I enjoy the landscape of the hike.…
