“Abigail, go get some roses from the forest!” Dad yelled.
I walked outside wearing my plaid skirt and red T-shirt. My brown ponytail shimmered in the sun. When I got to the edge of the forest, I didn’t know whether this would be a new experience or a death trap. Though I’ve never been in the forest alone, I made up my mind after two minutes: I was going in.
After what seemed like three hours of walking, I came upon a patch of roses. Slowly, I bent down and tugged on them. They didn’t budge. “Ack!” I yelped, startled.

She was wearing an old pair of jeans and a “Mathletics” shirt. “Hi, my name’s Claire, and this is my twin brother, Coby,” Claire announced while a boy walked out of the house.
“Uhh . . . hi, my name’s Abigail,” I responded awkwardly.
Suddenly, a vine shot out of my hand and smashed a glass. What just happened?
“Wow, you’re one too,” Coby said.
“One of what?” I asked, confused.
“You’re a mip; it’s a person who does magic like us,” Claire said as if I were a baby who knew nothing.
I told them I was lost, and they offered to help me find my way home.
After four days of wandering through the woods and talking about dark magic, we saw the edge of the woods. I felt cold and turned around to see Civil, the evil mip. His hood was as dark as the night sky. Claire nodded at Coby, and he winked back. They both yelled, “One, two, three!” and math symbols shot out of their hands. I shot vines and roses out of mine. Together, we blasted our powers at him, but he was too strong. Then my roses flipped back Civil’s hood, and he faded away in ashes, as if he had been burned to death. I knew his hood was his weakness.
We laughed together. Coby, Claire, and I walked out of the forest, and I saw my mom and dad. I ran up and hugged them. I was finally
