Personal Narrative: A World Without Recognition

Improved Essays
There is a lot of people in the world that can count on one hand how many times they have done something that they felt was important, and received no recognition. There are people that will gravitate towards the idea of getting recognition for their good deeds. That only let me be aware of any thing you try to do for me, you will have a hidden agenda. I feel that most people do things because they can help, or maybe they just like to teach people to be more like them, and some may get some type of enjoyment from staying in the background.

First, I remember when I held a door open for a lady/man just to help, because they was carrying something. I didn’t receive any recognition, and I wasn’t looking for any. I have fed a homeless dog before, and I received no recognition. I have always been the type of person that help people. I help my mom around the house with cooking and most of the chores. If I didn’t get recognition, I still felt independent.

I evoke waking up every 5 minutes checking my blue IPod to see the time. Every time I woke up I would look outside my gelid, frosted window and see the sky darken to a faint violent. As the sky lightens, I would awaken even more. Just as the clock hit 7:30 A.M. sharp my alarm went off, “beep, beep, beep” desiring that I had gotten more sleep. I had opened my eyes like I had 50 cups of coffee, and jumping out of bed like a deer running from its predator.…

One act that I did for a teacher was in the preschool for Ms. Campbell. There was a stack of messy papers in the back of the classroom so I organized them into a neat stack. Ms. Campbell was grateful for this deed, I asked her how it looked and she said “ it looks great, it’s so much better! Thank you!” Doing this act made me proud knowing that I could help her.…

I’ve never been able to decline help to someone in need. I always put everyone else's needs before my own because when I sacrifice myself in order to put a smile on someone else’s face it gives me peace. Contributing to a cause to make the world a better place is worth the sleepless nights. When one is passionate about helping people it won’t matter to them how long they have to go without food or how tired they will feel at the end of the day. Just this week, I’ve had several occasions where I gladly gave up my time to do people favors or help someone in need.…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

During the hike I thought a lot about my summer reading, but sadly it didn't help me face the monster... During July of 2015 I was reading Into Thin Air while driving down south. While there, my family went on a hike that was on a smaller scale of Everest, but still gave me many lessons to take away from it. It was a short but scenic drive from the place we were staying to the long, treacherous trail. My brother and I started walking at a faster pace than our parents so we arrived at the first obstacle before our parents.…

Three months ago I stepped off the ship to see ground for the first time in three years. My initial sights of the New World and the native people was enigmatic and disconcerting- never have I felt so unacquainted with a populace. I have spent my time here in Mexico City trailing along with a group of apprentices of master artists whom I traveled with on the ship from Seville. My artist companions have enlightened my understanding of New World society with their paintings in the time that we have spent together. I’ve been earning exceptional fortune in harvesting New World cochineal for export to Europe and providing pigments for the paint of my fellow artist friends.…

I feel that in life, it is important that I always improve myself and make myself into a better person everyday. Sometimes, when I perform a task for someone else or do a favor for them, I gain a sense of accomplishment and feel like I did my job as a human being to give to people who can’t do certain tasks for themselves. This idea of helping others has always been intertwined in my personality. Although I always tried to have a positive impact on many people, I still feel that I have not done enough, prior to an important event which occurred in my life only about 1 year ago, I had some selfish qualities about myself and in certain situations, I put myself before others who couldn’t help themselves. When I was elected to national Honor Society…

I remember the day when I had the thought that would from that day on never fail to amaze me. I remember walking down Michigan Avenue in Chicago with the smell of Garrett Popcorn and sewage roaming the air. I remember seeing businessmen and business women making their way to work rolling their briefcases down the street. I remember the massive amount of tourists, including myself, stopping every five feet to take pictures of the beautiful sights of the city. I remember thinking to myself, “Why can’t these people learn how to walk in a polite and organized fashion?”…

Is every action we make motivated by our own self interest alone? Most philosophers believe so but how hard is it to convince someone who doesn't. This age old philosophical question between psychological egoism and psychological altruism instantly sparks debate about how we as humans make decisions based off of what we believe is important. Before attempting to comprehend the debate, you should first understand a couple key definitions. According to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “Psychological Egoism is the idea that we are always deep down motivated by what we perceive to be in our own self-interest”; “Psychological Altruism on the other hand is the counter argument to that opinion by saying that we sometimes have motives that…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…

Opening My Eyes to a Familiar Yet Unfamiliar World 1,200 feet above sea level and 30 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles, I woke up as the birds chirped and the sun shined straight into my face in the suburbs of Palos Verdes, California. Waking up in a house on top of an actual hill instead of an apartment on the 27th floor of a manmade building I used to live in, in Seoul, South Korea. Moving back to America after my freshman year of high school was a complete switch for me in environment both culturally and socially. It made me notice the many differences between American and Korean cultures as well as between the life at school I had switching into a public from a private school. This variation in culture and environment helped me understand others better with a more broader point of view.…
