Personal Narrative: A True Theatre Kid

Decent Essays
In high school, I loved theatre. Even from a young age, I had always longed to be on the stage. When I was younger my aunt was a director for a community theater company and would often direct musicals and I loved performing when I could. However, even if the theater blood metaphorically flowed through my veins, I still had to practice at every opportunity. I auditioned many times and wouldn’t get the role I originally desired. It was crushing, especially since it was something I felt good at. Yet I kept failing. I remember thinking that maybe it wasn’t for me. Maybe I was too shy or I wasn’t a true “theatre kid.” But, I kept going and I made more friends and opened myself up to people. Most importantly, I kept auditioning. Until it happened.

One of the keys coming into the playoffs was to generate a pass rush to take the pressure off of a beleaguered secondary that was ravaged by injuries late in the season. They did exactly that on the first play for the Seahawks it was a tackle for loss the next play was a pick six by Luke Kuechly throwing a haymaker up 14-0 just 3 1/2 minutes into the game a magical start they continued through the first half. The pressure we were able to generate was a sight for sore eyes, as the outside guys hadn't gotten a sack since the Thanksgiving showdown against Dallas. It was great to see us force Russell Wilson into bad decisions and put them behind the chains with four sacks.…

However it turned out to be the complete opposite. Choosing my final design, which has now been modified and changed, I started the real work. Even though I started this design with little knowledge on clay, I was excited and enthusiastic to learn.…

I was fortunate enough to have had my first theatre production at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. I was a member of the children's ensemble in A Christmas Carol from 2008 - 2012. Two of the young cast members had gotten into an argument, which was a hard situation for me because both of them were my friends.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

It takes a lot of willpower and hard work to be successful in the acting industry. Until you get to the point where you have a somewhat stable income, you have to be able to juggle your entertainment career and a job that is flexible enough and pays enough to where you can go to an audition at a moment's notice and still be able to pay your bills. If you show up to an audition and look unable to play a role to the director because you are in a bad financial situation, the director is going to find someone else who can play the role with no problem and that will just put you in a deeper hole. With this being said, you also have to maintain your reputation. The acting business is small and if that director thinks you’re too unstable to play a part, it won’t be long before every other director knows too.…
