Personal Narrative: A True Story

Decent Essays
At first, I tried to find a true story that I had experienced before writing the essay. Also, I wanted to make it more interesting to read. This was why I decided to combine a real story and fiction to form my own story. The real story was about a long flight from Vietnam to the United States on January 28th, 2013. In this flight, I had been nervous and worried about my future life in America. On the other hand, I was so glad to be reunited with my grandparents, my aunts and uncle after 20 years apart. Thus, I used these feelings as the seeds of fictional elements in my essay. In this case, I was flying in the sky, so I needed something relating to it. In my childhood, I admired Zeus because of his powerful proficiency. He was considered the god of the sky, or the god of gods. Thus, he inspired me as an ideal symbol to stand for my fears as well as to reflect my reactions in this situation. That was why he appeared in an unimaginable scene of chain lightning, …show more content…
It was my family. Always in my mind, family is the safe place to think about and come back. That was why in the most dangerous situation, my family suddenly appeared as the strength against my worries. Actually, my parents divorced many years ago when I was a little boy, about five. This detail was described by the separation between my mom and me at the airport. And my dad who named Henry in the narrative was sitting right next to me, but he could not understand what was going on with his son. Because during my childhood, my dad was not always by my side; I lived with my relatives because he got married again to another woman. Thus, a dream of being together having dinner with my family was the desperate hope during my childhood. In addition, the scene of my family having dinner while it rained heavily with lightning and thunder outdoors showed this hope. This meant to me that even though how difficult it is in my life, I always dream of a happy

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Essay #1; Life and Literature Have you ever wondered how life and literature are connected? We make our own choices just like characters in a story. In my opinion, we are just like characters in a book, we both make our own decisions. In life we also narrate because we are stuck in our own perspective. Life and literature are connected through characterization, conflict, and narration because we are our own author, when we characterize people and narrate going through life and conflict.…

A Thousand Experiences Throughout life, individuals face different obstacles and struggles; my obstacle was my tendency to be shy. For example, when I was faced with social pressures like speaking in front of a class for a presentation, or meeting new people, I would be a nervous wreck. My palms would sweat, my voice would tremble, and it took all the strength I could muster to overcome my irrational fears. I only had a small, albeit close knit group of friends due to my introverted ways.…

The Human Story There is approximately 7.5 billion people on Earth. Within those 7.5 billion people, there is something similar between all of them. The thing that connects these people is emotion.…

The guidelines for this assignment were to select and tell the story of an argument that has shaped me into the person that I am today. I chose to share my struggle of being different in my family of extremely involved parents and athletic brothers. After a major argument and decision made with my parents, it was through lacrosse, which I never excelled at or cared much about, that brought me to realize that I am a natural leader. To write this narrative, I put much of my recent practice writing scenes to use to help a reader submerse into the story and make them feel as if they were actually present in that moment. I also kept a great focus on my narrative arc.…

The exact moment I sat down in the car his chiseled jawline tightened, and his brown eyes flashed heat waves at me. I could see his white knuckles as he held onto the steering wheel. I had a lump in my throat that felt like I swallowed a golf ball. My hands were shaking and my eyes were blurry from holding back tears, but somehow I managed to get my seatbelt on while he put the car in drive. I really didn’t want to talk, but I felt like I had to say something so I asked “How was your day?”…

The Other Side of the Story He has always been there for me. Ever since I was a little girl my dad and I have had a special bond, I could talk to him about everything, and he listened, even to the things he really didn’t care to know. It was a goal of his to make sure my sister, my mom and I all felt loved no matter what he had to go through to make that happen. He always gave me the best advice, he would always tell me “there are three sides to every story, the first side, the second side and the truth,” something that I know he learned for himself while being a police officer.…

“ My day has been as slow and as bad as a turtle trying to run” I whispered to myself sitting in my HAP class with my head in my arms. After a bad long day of school, I decided to hang out with some friends, trying to find a way to procrastinate even longer to do all my homework. I asked a few of my close friends, Lily and Jackson, to hang out and maybe go get something to eat. After the loud bell rang to dismiss all the students to go home, I met up with my friends and we were on our way. We walked out the big doors and right as I walked out the cold harsh air hit my face.…

I wanted a change in scenery and it wasn't like I had something better to do so we packed our things and met up at my mom's friend's house. They had a lovely spacious one story house with a pool. We loaded everything into the truck and began our two-hour journey. The journey itself wasn't that bad, although I found myself nodding off as I listen to the music on my iPod.…
