Personal Narrative: A Trip To The Golf Car

Improved Essays
We pull into the rocky driveway, and the fun weekend begins. “Alright, we made it to Galena! Everyone out,” my dad tells us, while turning off the car. We grab our bags and head inside.
“Wow, it’s a lot bigger inside than it looks outside,” Ola explains.
“Right?” Emma and I confess at the same time. After we drop our bags on the beds, we race for the golf cart.
“I call driving first,” Rebecca shouts. We jump in after her. Emma and Rebecca in the front, and Ola and I in the back. We all hold on dearly for the bumpy ride ahead.
We ride around all of the houses, up the hills and through the woods. The whole time Ryan rides the minibike behind us.
Emma wails, “Slow down!”
“No way. This is too much fun,” Rebecca responds. Once everyone has had a turn driving, we think about going to the “haunted house” down the road. Ola, Emma, Ryan and I are all up for it, but Rebecca has some kind of fear that is holding her back.
Emma pleads, “Come on Rebecca. It won’t be THAT scary.

Plates are shattered beneath our feet, and the window is wide open. Then we go into the bathroom. The toilet seat is gone, and there is a red substance on the floor. Bravely, we head into the bedroom. This room is normal, besides the fact that the closet is freezing. Ryan tries to scare us by saying, “It must be a ghost.” The last room we inspect is the garage. In the passageway to it, there is a big jug of the same red substance that was in the bathroom, but this time it has a source. We follow the dripping noise to the ceiling, and decide it’s from contaminated rain. We move along. In the garage, there's a chair. It has a rope and a knife sitting on top of it. Now that is creepy. Next we find a fridge with a lot of dust on it, and the words “HELP ME” is written out. This we get scared from, and we run screaming out of the house. We don't stop until we reach home. Then we tell my parents everything, every last bit of it. They tell us to never go there ever

Gender roles seem to have been written in stone from the beginning of time, wherein men are expected to remain resourceful leaders who arrange and execute decisions, as well as provide for their families. Women, on the other hand, are expected to obediently listen to their husbands and nurture children and cook for the family. These roles, however definite in the 1900s, shift between genders as circumstances grow demanding and difficult in John Steinbeck’s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, following the Joad family’s arduous journey to California during the Great Depression. As the Joads elude the dry devastation in Oklahoma, an apparent displacement of authority in the family arises, revealing the ideal adaptive and survival capabilities…

The day started like any other, but the same could not be said for how it ended. I arrived at the town golf course, Longshore, about 30 minutes before my tee time. There was slight cloud coverage, minimal wind, and a comfortable temperature. Glints of sun through the clouds periodically illuminated blades of grass, almost signaling for the ball to be hit there. The bentgrass took a deep, rich shade of green from the recent douses of rain.…

We ran upstairs to learn the a pipe had burst from built up pressure, the water from the pipe had seeped through the walls and fallen down going through the light fixtures and heavily hitting the hardwood floor. We went back downstairs and saw that Reggy and Tammy were cleaning up the floors and noticed that it was taking quite a while so we all went and got towels and vacuums to help out. Working together we eventually got it all done.…

The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach.…

As an eighth grader on a sports team, I was one of the youngest players on the golf team and there were a lot of high hopes for me because I had been golfing ever since I was very young. The previous year, there were many seniors that graduated and I actually made the varsity team. There are a total of five players from each school that make it to the the State Tournament if they qualify as a team. All season, I was the number five golfer which meant that I could be replaced at any time if I started to struggle. Knowing this scared me a lot because I wanted to impress the older golfers and I didn't want to let them down.…

The 5 minutes was almost up. That’s all the time you get to look for your ball in a tournament. My socks were wet from all the dew that had not yet evaporated from the long blades of grass that I was searching through frantically. I zigzagged my way through the weeds, hopelessly, until the alarm sounded and my time expired. The walk of shame back to the tee box is an uncomfortable experience for anyone.…

My critic has always been my mom. She had helped me by restricting my leisure time on a routine basis and setting a time limit on my studies which made me develop a habit of completing my schoolwork in a timely manner. One of my most valued aspirations is to become a professional golfer in the PGA. I was always interested in a variety of sports, but especially golf and basketball. However, as I got older, my interest in golf started to grow.…

A tremendously small ball is placed a great distance from one’s face, and a silver wand oddly warped at one end is positioned in one’s hands. Furthermore, one’s head is set buzzing with a plethora of “tips”: Lead with your right hand; push with your right foot; keep your head down; don’t lift your left heel. But the funny thing about golf is that it translates almost too well into words. What people don’t tell you about golf is that the mess of anatomical information you’re bombarded with in the beginning is useless, unless you have an idea of what you need.…
