The year was 1939, I woke up to the bright warm light of the sun shining through my window onto my face. I didn't feel like getting up but I had to. I got out of my bed feeling like I just got stomped on by a horse. I then ran down the dark hallway outside of my room and into the kitchen to get some breakfast. After I ate my breakfast, I ran to the front door, got my shoes on, and went outside to play and run around in the cold, freezing, white blanket of snow. While I was running around in the snow, my parents hollered at me "Ian please come inside, we need to talk to you. I yelled "okay" and went inside. When I got inside, my parents sat down on the couch. "Ian, we are going to have to leave the house for good tomorrow morning" they said …show more content…
As soon as they said that, my heart fell to my stomach. Then suddenly I remembered that mom and dad had given me a ticket for me to get on a boat to New York city in America. "Wait a second, I still have that ticket to get on the boat to New York city that you gave me just in case of an emergency" I said in an excited voice. "Use that ticket to get on the boat" said dad in a serious tone. Before they could say anything, I ran to my room to pack my stuff. I could only take 3 things so, I chose wisely. The things I chose were my light bulb from my lamp, my bible, and my pet turtle, Pip (even though they don't allow pets I can still hide him without anyone knowing). The next morning, I got out of bed early in the morning before the sun was rising and when the night ruled the sky. I rode a camel to the harbor. It took me several long, painful, starving, wet, and weeks to get …show more content…

He said "hello my name is Victor Renov, where are you from?". I said "I am from Germany". Then we preceded to get on the steam boat. Suddenly, When we got on the steam boat, we heard a gun shot. We quickly ran over to where we heard the gun shot. Victor's friend Chenov was dead from a bullet to the the head. There was blood on the floor from his head. We were horrified by the scene. My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…
