Would you like to live in a disgusting cabin in the middle of a dark, eerie forest for a week? I don’t think so. I didn’t want to, but I was forced to. It all started when my parents woke my three siblings and me very early, like at 5:00 a.m just to tell us that we were going on a road trip to Marble Forest. Never heard of it and I never want to. I just wanted to sleep. I put my head down again, but I found myself being dragged out of bed. I got ready and our parents helped us pack everything we needed. Soon, everyone was set and ready to go.

The trip to Marble Forest took eight hours so to pass time, I was reading a book called The House of the Scorpion. It was such a good book. It didn’t feel like eight hours had passed by but they sure did. Just when I reached the best part, I realized my parents were calling me. We finally reached the cabin. The exterior of the cabin looked…. interesting. It had a small, dull red door and some of the paint was peeling off. Beside the door stood a woman. She was tall, had blue eyes, dirty-blonde hair, and pale skin. She immediately ran up to us and introduced herself timidly,

The interior of the cabin wasn’t so bad but it definitely doesn’t deserve a lot of credit. There was a foul smell inside the cabin and the whole place looked ominous and modest. Once you enter the cabin, you will see a small sofa, a chair, and what you can call a kitchen. There was a tiny hallway that leads to 3 small rooms and 1 bathroom. I know it doesn’t sound that bad, but the sight was completely different. I guess I just wasn’t used to living in a cabin. Anyway. I was so exhausted from waking up early for that trip, I decided to take a nap. I ran to the room I would share with my sister and jumped on one of the beds. It wasn’t even soft, but I was so tired, the second my head hit the pillow, I was sound

“You never want to help around the house”, “ All you do is sit your lazy behind on the couch all day.” is all I kept hearing. I didn’t think much of it at first, I just kept saying to myself that they’ll get through it, they love each other. The yelling kept getting louder and louder, so I pushed one ear against the pillow and put my hand over the other. I thought that if I just covered my ears, it’ll all be gone and everything will be fine the next day. I rolled out of bed the next day, roughly at around…

My parents decided to get a divorce less than two years ago, in fact, this weekend marks the two-year anniversary of the day they decided to split up. The Sunday after Thanksgiving; it is a day that no one in my family will ever forget I am sure. The four of us were sitting around the square, wooden dinner table eating leftover turkey and stuffing. Mom and Dad had been fighting since we had gotten home from church. Alex and I had spent the remainder of the morning hiding upstairs with our stereos turned up to their maximum levels to drown out the sound of Mom and Dad screaming downstairs.…

I was so angry at my mom at that moment not only had we just received our food stamps, but she was nowhere to be found and had not been home for four days. I stayed up late that night expecting her to come in with some wild excuse, but I was going to tell her I wanted to live with grandma. She did not come home, in fact, I must have expected it deep down inside since I knew where all my sister Christmas gifts were and I stayed up late and made sure everything was wrapped and under the tree. I thought surely, she will be home for Christmas morning, but the next day we got up and no mom, no food, and no gifts for me. I remember my little sister who was only four at the time taunting me with how bad I must have been for Santa to not bring me anything.…

I would sometimes stay up until 3 or 4 in the morning because I was so uncomfortable with the situation. One night, when I was around 12 or 13, my sister and I wanted to leave, but my dad said no. My sister, only 5 or 6 at the time, would cry, and I would cry because I felt so bad for her. I told my dad there was nothing he could do about it, and I was calling my mom. So, at around 11:30 pm, I called my mom, and told her that I wanted to go home.…
