Personal Narrative: A Trip To Florida

Everyone’s gone on some sort of trip. Whether it be somewhere local or a complete different country, they have one thing in common, the people. Recently I took a trip to Florida and I realized although we were in the same location the people around me were not having the same experiences. Different people go different places for different reasons. There’s the tourist who sticks to the well beaten path and doesn’t like to be outside of their comfort zone. Then there is the stereotypical family vacation, exhausted parents with toddlers in tow. In direct contrast to the tourist is the adventurer who tends to forge their own path into the unknown. Finally there’s the over prepared who needs to schedule their trip down to minute precisely. If you’ve ever gone on a trip, you are familiar with the first type of person, the tourist, They’re easy to spot and most travelers fall into this category. It’s usually a family, maybe a few kids decked out in t shirts displaying the name of the city you’re staying in. The dad is pot-bellied and wears a Hawaiian t shirt, the mom wears loose cargo pants and sunglasses, her purse overflowing with …show more content…
This is where you are likely to run into “The Over Prepared”. They know everything about anything related to the region that you’re visiting. The Over Prepared has definitely been anticipating their vacation for a long time and has taken that time to do their research. For that reason, the over prepared likes to keep a tight schedule and know exactly what they’re doing each day. When traveling with unprepared you will find yourself being rushed from place to place. The over prepared might experience more of an area but does not experience any of them in depth. The over prepared is the friend that wants to hit all the big rides in one day at the theme park. Although this can be annoying don’t hold this against them. They are just experiencing the classic fear of missing

I had never thought of what it might be like to grow up in a northern area, or just even outside of Florida. Up until my 14th summer I had always assumed everyone lived the same way I did. It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

What does it truly mean to be intellectual? Some may say that being intellectual means being book smart, while others say that it is being street smart. In an entry of “Hidden Intellectualism” by Gerald Graff, Graff believes that one can actually become intellectual if they start learning about topics they actually enjoy and then slowly start easing into challenging topics. While many argue that intellectualism is limited to the studies of school, non-academic activities such as traveling and truly experiencing these events can teach one about the history of a place, the culture, and how to solve problems. When asked why people decide travel they just say that they travel for vacation, but what they do not realize is that traveling is a learning experience.…

From smelling the salty waters by the Florida Keys, seeing all of the green from the stems of green beans growing, the flavor of the freshest eggs you could get from the coop in the backyard, to the avocado tree growing in the backyard, my trip to Florida had become one of the greatest life experiences I’ve had yet. Visiting Florida taught me many skills on being independent, mentally, and how easy and fun it is just to be to yourself sometimes. It all started Christmas eve when I got home to find my presents from “Santa” there before we even went to bed. My parents had planned on taking a vacation to Florida for Christmas break to see my grandparents, but we were unable to also get my parents there.…

Go to vacation destinations most often include glamorous European cities such as London or Paris. These destinations, however, can become a bit too overwhelming with crawling tourists determined to capture the iconic photo moments in a red phone booth near the Big Ben or hundreds of feet from the Eiffel Tower. Imagination plays a role in everyones traveling, whether they realize it or not. Taking the time to stop and observe others, as well as asking some questions of those around us, can show us what role imagination plays in traveling. Everyone views traveling in their own way. Striving to provide more financial benefits to the local population while at the same time protecting the natural environment travelers have contact that is more direct with the local families especially their children. As mentioned by Slimbach many locals think, “I like that these tourists spend money here. But I’m uncomfortable with the way our children want to imitate their tastes in clothes and music. Our children no longer value our local traditions or feel much sense of duty toward their elders. Also, I knew all groups in our community weren’t equal in wealth and power, but now I see how much greater it is in the outside world (87, 88).”…

According to the latest World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO, 2016) records, about 1.2 billion tourists have crossed international borders in 2015, an increase of 4.4%. For 2030, numbers are forecasted to reach 1.8 billion (see Figure 1). With the globalized and more accessible world, every sector of the tourism industry, including the hospitality sector, faces various challenges. Guests with diverse cultural and social backgrounds (Bharwani & Butt, 2012; Kapiki, 2012) and a high level of travel experiences expect a more personalized and more exciting hospitality experience, which satisfy the “uppermost part of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the need for self-fulfilment and enjoyment instead of just satisfying the need for shelter and nourishment” (Björkqvist, 2009, p. 7) Due to the development of the modern internet…
