Personal Narrative: A Simple Drive

Improved Essays
It was late one friday night, I was on my way home from my boyfriend's house in Amenia to my house in Ancram. I had done this drive a thousand times and never had an issue. I was doing my usual speed of 60 on all the roads so i could make it home in my normal 20 minutes when it was a typical 35 minute drive.Than my 20 minute drive turned into a trip to the emergency room, a totaled car, and some very unhappy parents.

My typical drive changed when I decided to check my snapchat on a curvy back road while doing 60 mph when I should have been doing 30. I was not paying attention and lost control of my car and ended up rolling the car three times before it came to a stop. I knew that my parents were going to be pissed but I knew that would be relieved that I was okay. I managed to unbuckle my seatbelt and crawl out. I searched the car to find my phone that I

They were worried that I had broke some ribs and they told me that I had bruising on my shoulder and legs. As I was being checked out on the scene my parents showed up. The first thing my mom did was hug and kiss me and tell me that she was glad I was okay. My dad on the other hand was not so sweet about it because I totaled the car. The EMT told my parents that they wanted to take my to the hospital to check my ribs to see if they were broke. So my mom rode with me in the ambulance to the hospital to get checked out. My dad stayed with the police officers and firefighters to take care of the car and to wait for the tow truck to come.

At the end of all this I had two broken ribs and some bruising, I also learned an important lesson that if you’re going to speed you never snapchat to. But in all seriousness I learned that speeding and texting is not worth it. The accident gave me a new outlook on things, because knowing that I could have been seriously hurt or even died that night made me realize life is too short to do dumb

Because of health reasons, my eldest sister, Ariel, hasn’t been able to drive for a little over a year. Sometime after Christmas, my parents dubbed me responsible enough, and Ariel well enough for me to be her new chauffeur; responsible enough of a driver, taking extra care to drive safe, and well enough to pay attention to any drifting from anything I read in the manual. The first time we took off was to take a quick trip to our local Dollar General. Ariel’s daughter, my niece, was sick with a cold so we needed to pick up some baby ibuprofen. Since Bethany, Aaron, and my dad was at work, Sierra, Elizabeth, and my mom were also sick, I was the only “driver” available.…

Later that day, the sun was falling and the heat turned into a light breeze. Some were packing things up and others were standing around and enjoying the breathtaking moment.…

On September 9th, 2016 I was a passenger in rear-end car accident. At the young age of seventeen, I was ignorant, rebellious and negligent. At this time, I honestly believed that I knew it all and was always in the right; I would ignore anyone trying to guide me towards the right path or give me advice. As in the short story “Rain of Fire” by Evan Thomas, I would have never expected that a regular day could end up in such catastrophe. I learned not to trust those whom I have not gotten to know well enough.…

I was rushing to get to a morning club meeting, so I quickly gathered up all of my things and stuffed it in my backpack and hurried to my car. I was on my way out the neighborhood when I realized I forgot something at home. So, logically I had decided that I would make a quick U- Turn back home to grab what I had left. One thing that I had noticed over the past year is that there is always a big blue pickup truck parked right at the entrance of my subdivision. I only had my license for a couple months but a simple U-Turn seemed easy enough.…

It was the summer of 2007, and my parents thought that it would be a brilliant idea to go on a family road trip to some unknown location. This was the summer before I started high school and I wasn’t in the family bonding mood for a day let alone two weeks. With me being an only child, grandchild, and great grandchild, I was the only kid with five adults in a minivan. Why my parents thought that this was a good idea is still beyond my imagination.…
