Personal Narrative: A Short Story

“Go! Just do it already!” My heart began to beat faster and faster as I began to think of the outcomes in my head, there was no turning back now. I was sitting on a tree stomp barely above the powder that had fallen previously the night before it was just high enough to keep me from touching the snow, I looked down at my binding and pretended to fix it but really I was just finding a way to stall my eager friends. I sat there staring down at my biggest goal but also my worst fear. The adrenaline hit me hard, rushing threw all my veins as I stood up and let go of the stomp. I begin to slide down from the start point and that's when it set in, I was gonna do a backflip.
It was a saturday morning, it had snowed previously the night before leaving a blanket of about 8 inches of powder on the slopes. I was with my good buddy Liam, we had been skiing with each other for about 5 years and we always had a goal to do a backflip and now our skill level and the conditions were perfect. We began our routine like always, we woke up

I agreed to the deal then Caden hiked up the hill and began his way down, he approached the jump did his flip and road off. It was nice to see someone flip first but Caden did his first flip about a year ago so this was nothing for him and he also was a snowboarder which also didn't help my case. That's when it set in, I had to do one now. I began my walk up to the hill every other step I would sink into the fresh powder. It felt like I was on a roller coaster my stomach would drop, my heartbeat would speed up, and my adrenaline was off the charts Liam and Caden stared at me as I hesitantly clipped into my skis. The only comfort I felt was sitting on that tree stomp. I gripped a tree branch as hard as I could and took a couple deep breaths then suddenly a ski instructor showed up with five ten year olds, they stopped and stared at

After being at school for what seemed like forever, I put on my boots and headed to the ski lift as I looked at the snow glow in the cold February sun. As I waited in line, John was grabbing ice balls the size of my hand, then throwing them at my back. Without anything to throw back him, I felt as helpless as an amputee in a war-zone. Even though Jack was next to me checking my ticket, he did not seem to care that someone was throwing ice balls at me. He didn’t even care to look at my lift ticket which explains how I got on the lift.…

When I first read, “Up in the Air, and Down, With a Twist” I was instantly brought back to the ten days that I spent in Springhill, Colorado where freestyle skiing was the norm. The lodge where I stayed was one of the lesser popular resort for skiing because my mother refused to let myself or my father ski in fear of injury. On the contrast, I felt immersed in the winter culture, and this article brings back those fond memories of my vacation. The author, Henry Fountain is able to catch the reader’s attention by illustratively breaking down the incredibly difficult sport of freestyle skiing into simple constructs that everyone can understand. I am a firm believer in the colloquialism seeing is not believing, but knowing is understanding.…

When I was about 14 years old, I spent the summer at Camp Lake of the Woods in Decatur, Michigan. From canoeing in the beautiful waters of the three hundred and twenty-acre lake to doing ceramics at the arts and crafts studio, there was never a dull moment at that place. Some of the camp’s amenities include an equestrian center, three baseball diamonds, dance and gymnastics pavilions, and ceramics and arts and crafts studios (Camp Lake of the Woods). Meanwhile, the aquatic options and waterfront boast a three hundred and twenty-acre lake, a heated swimming pool, an aqua volleyball court, a water trampoline, seven ski boats, and numerous boats, boards, canoes and kayaks (Camp Lake of the Woods). I was a swimmer, artist, and a water-skier all…

The entire experience of skiing creates an exhilarating sense of adrenaline beginning with the chair lift, standing at the top, and the trip down. At the base of the hill, I look up at the immensity before me. With my skis clicked in, my poles in my hand, I glide over the firmly packed snow to the chairlift. People wait anxiously; a portion, like myself, are impatient to complete another run; the rest is apprehensive to ski their first. Battling my way through the vicious horde to the loading…

10,000 ft up in the Rocky Mountains skiing my first black diamond ever. I slowly approached the trail as my heart was racing. My skis pointed straight down the edge and all my mass shifts forward and was off. Avoiding the moguls I swiftly weaved in and out making a powder wave that trailed behind me.…
