Now in days everyone is a “winner” every one gets to go home with a trophy even if they didn’t even win. They have always been praised for just being there, even if they don’t try. If someone tells you that you’re a winner, then you automatically just are. Winning is never giving up even after you have lost.

It was the most basic of mornings that I woke up to. The sun was not yet shining its warmth on my pint-sized world, however I still dragged myself out of my warm consuming bed, leaving it and my dream Mister Sandman had given me, behind. I swung on my Gator shirt and jet black shorts without even having to think, still mentally dragging myself away from slumber. The only reason I awoken this early or would ever awake this early is for

Soon Mister Sandman blessed me with the sweetest of dreams. After awakening that morning, I repeated my morning ritual before rushing to the Liberty pool to rally with Grace for a heat sheet, so I could comprehend my event. Just as coach previously shouted, I stood in the 15-18-year-old heat for 50 yards of freestyle. As I studied my opponent’s times I concurred that I had one creature to compete alongside. This creatures label was Rebecca Granman and her time was .43 seconds superior to my own. As I rested at the clerk of course I thought about in a way winning was not everything. As I awaited, I iced my shoulder, yearning and praying it wouldn’t fail. Time flew like a bird from the night, and I was on the block arranged to dive. My whole body roared with adrenaline and panic, I could sense my heart beat through each inch of by body 10,001 thoughts and uncertainties looped in my brain. The buzzer went off and I was away. I was submerged in the water, that’s all there was then, me and the water. No thoughts, just water. It cuddled me and fixed into action to do what I had done millions of times before, just swim. All I could grasp was the black line that was leading me to the wall. Just swim. I swam tough and sturdy, imbedding a silent rhythm of my drum in my head. As I saw the dark line expire, I …show more content…
I did not go through my customary morning routine. I had gotten up premature to eat a giant breakfast, we were now on our way to our pool where an epic rematch was about to go down. When we finally got there I high fived Grace and she presented me the heat sheet like a trophy. I rummaged for my name until I found it. It was right next to the creature, Rebecca Granman. The creature who shattered me by .2 seconds. I was equipped to stand off with it. I was game to beat it. The meet flew by to my event and I scurried over to the clerk of course. I looked over to see Rebecca sitting there, all chill like it expected another win. She saw me staring at her and knew who I was, and what I desired to take from her. She gave a thin sneer and

With only a thousand meters left, my eyelids grew heavy and my blinks became prolonged; I was beginning to lose consciousness. I was nearing the end of the PacWest cross country conference championship race. The day began just like any other race day except I now had six months of training behind me. Earlier that morning, I looked out onto the hilly green Hawaiian course situated next to the ocean. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath which seemed to last forever.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

I dove into the water trying to get as far as I could without ending up in last place. I swam the first lap, then the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh. I knew that the eighth lap was my last lap so I did underwaters past the flags as fast as I could and sprinted as hard as I could to get to the wall. I felt like I was flying through the water faster than a plane.…

As soon as the referee called my name, I forced myself into an aggressive mindset and stepped into the fray. At first glance, I could not comprehend how my burly wrestling opponent was even in my weight class. A stocky junior with the body of a tree trunk stared straight into my inexperienced freshman soul. Immediately after the whistle blew, he dove for my leg. I sprawled back and blocked his arms, successfully barring this move.…

The bed mercilessly taunts my exhausted limbs to return but my determined heart persuades me to brave the trial by water once more. As I dive over the ice cold pool, dread and regret fill every moment until my body finally makes contact. For two, sometimes three, hours the situation will only worsen as I repeatedly raise my arms above my head and pull back as hard as possible. Weeks of this pass by, all for the sake of being able to travel through 100 meters of water a few milliseconds faster. Swimming has been my primary sport since the age of eight.…

When you put all of your energy into swimming a race, a voice grows in your head telling you to just quit and give up. And sometimes it can be one of, if not the most difficult thing to turn that voice away, especially because that voice is your own. That voice knows your pain, it knows your strengths and weaknesses. When you’re swimming a race as hard as possible, it often feels like it will never end; it seems like there will be pain and down-putting voices forever. But when you push through the noise in your head, that is when you truly…
