Personal Narrative: A Short Story

My friend Jessica and I were brainstorming ideas one Monday afternoon. Over an out of state trip for her birthday. It took us a while to come up with some places. "How about Las Vegas?" she asked. "We're not twenty-one yet, so what's the point of going?" I replied. "How about Alaska?" I suggested. "You know that I hate the cold," she replied obnoxiously. "Grand Canyon!" she blurted out. We both looked at each other and smiled. "Arizona it is," I thought to myself. We decided that we would travel by plane, and stay over there three days. I booked a nonstop flight for Friday at 6:30 a.m. Thursday evening we were packing like crazy. We had stacks of clothing that could last us a month. After we had our luggage figured out. I decided to set an …show more content…
We got a bit distracted and rode bumper cars, huge slides, and played ring toss before finally arriving at the animals. We gave the woman in the entrance our tickets and went in. The smell of farm animals, wet hay, and manure hit me from the beginning. The baby goats, bunnies, sheep, and pigs called our names from afar. Some steps after I saw a sign that read "Milk Beathy" with a painted cow on the side of it. I grabbed Jessica by the arm and pulled her towards the sign. Karen, Beathy's owner told us to watch how she was doing it. "You gently pull her udder down, squeeze, and repeat got it?" I'm surprised that I was actually going through with this. I sat down and gently grabbed the cow's udders with both my hands. Beathy made a loud noise and I freaked out. "It's okay that's normal," Karen said. I began to move my hands slowly up and down. The metal bucket started to fill up with milk, so I moved my hands faster. After watching me Jessica wanted to try, and she got the hang of it faster than I did. When Jessica finished we thanked Karen and left the petting zoo. "I'm hungry, what should we eat?" I asked Jessica. "I really want to try a turkey leg," she replied. I looked for a turkey leg stand and we went to it. I order two and that took most of the tickets we had left. When they gave us our turkey legs I then knew why they cost so many tickets. It was bigger than my head and it had a napkin wrapped around the bottom …show more content…
She looked at me crazy "If we're going sunset ziplining why are we leaving so early?" " It's a two-hour drive and, I want to go to this Mexican restaurant that I've read about." Hesitant, she got up and got dressed. I drove South of Phoenix for thirty minutes until reading "Mercado Plaza Del Sol next right." I got off the highway, followed the directions, and found the place. It looked like a spacious, one-floor building, with bricks around it. That had Mercado Plaza Del Sol painted in red on the side where the cars parked. We walked in to see that it was like a small flea market. It had different stores and stands that were selling handmade leather bags, chanclas, home decorations, clothing, and jewelry. Jessica saw "Tortas Ahogadas Guadalajara" with a black arrow pointing to the left. I followed her and we walked into a medium-sized restaurant. The menu was seen straight from the entrance with a variety of dishes. We were waiting in line and I knew what I was going to order, but Jessica didn't. She looked at the menu the entire time we were standing in line. It was our turn to order "Me da una torta ahogada porfavor con un jarrito de pina," I said. "A mi me da tres tacos de pastor con el mismo jarrito que ella," Jessica finally decided. "Ustedes van a ser numero 193," the cashier said. She gave us our drinks and number and we sat down in a brown booth. They were calling

Excitement was running through my body. Although it took forever to get here I wanted to stay there for a while, the lights were amazing as the neon lights of the Las Vegas strip were lit up and very beautiful. Many people walked through the stores, or outside them enjoying the lights. I saw a roller coaster next to a castle, A hotel I suppose, and A giant black pyramid. I’m glad I went on this trip, I was very patient getting here,…

A place that I hold dear is a little town on the panhandle of Florida in an area known as The Forgotten Coast called Mexico Beach. I have gone there every summer, staying for at least a week, since I was four years old. It is a place of tradition for my family because my mother vacationed there for the first time when she was four years old, too. I have come to love this place, not because it’s some epic fantasy vacation, but more because of what it represents to me. Mexico Beach is a place where each summer, for more than half of my life, I have spent every waking moment enjoying real quality family time.…

I was just so happy that I would get the chance to leave the valley at least once in my life, and I was glad it was with her. After all the planning with this trip, the date finally came when we would go. I was super excited that morning. Ashley didn't understand why I was so excited since, like I said, she had been there a thousand times so it really wasn't even considered a "vacation" to her. It was just getting out of the valley that got me excited; I really didn't care too much where it was, so regardless it was a vacation to me.…

In awe, the ride to Arenal was absolutely stunning, I saw many things I had never seen before. There were the cutest little houses that everyone in a village lived in, beautiful winding roads covered in green forest, and many exotic animals; when we arrived to Arenal, we ate at a local outdoor restaurant that was divine. Next we saw Arenal, we went to the most beautiful spa, where the lava flowed into the river that created to hot springs of the spa; the spa had a slide made of rock that lead into a beautiful pool with a bar inside, many different hot springs of all different temperatures, and brick pathways full with plants and animals I had never seen in person before! After all this we had a beautiful buffet dinner at the spa with exotic foods and drinks, but then it was time to return to San Jose when we would be leaving again the next day. My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

The day seemed to drag on and on, as I waited, counting down the days to California. It was a humid, sunny afternoon down at the Alton pool, where I usually spend most of my summer days working as a lifeguard. Today was very different than most…. And maybe the reason why was because it was my last day of work before I flew off to the big L.A. Most days at the pool the time went by slower than any I have ever known, with the scorching hot sun burning my skin, and little kids yelling at their friends telling each other secrets or what they want to play next.…
