Personal Narrative: A Random Act Of Kindness

Improved Essays
This month our challenge was to perform a random act of kindness and by being in New York City, I had the chance to still perform this task. Not too long ago my aunt and I went out to go see a movie and we grabbed some food before we did. There was a man who seemed as if he had been standing all day holding the door open for customers walking in and out of the McDonalds. It did not seem like it was his job if anything it seemed like he was doing it so someone would probably tip him. It was a really cold day and it was infact a few days before Christmas so I asked my aunt if she could lend me a couple extra dollars I wanted to do something nice for him. So i went and i bought a cup of coffee no milk or sugar and a muffin and went back outside

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

The speaker from PreMedical Ms.Schnarre, I was not interested in any of the things that this major had to offer. I have never been interested in PreMedical. Will probably not want to pursue any kind of job in this of work. Even though the opportunities seem interesting, the money was with my interest. I would not want to take a different direction that I am already headed.…

I use to work with a girl who was homeless and she was living out of her friends closet just to have somewhere to sleep at night. She didn’t know how long she would get to stay there so I bought her a sleeping bag, a blanket, and a pillow incase she had to sleep outside again or just in case she didn’t have anything to sleep with at night. She was so happy to receive the gifts from me and seeing her appreciation made me realize, what seems like a little gift to you is a huge need for someone…

At the age of twenty, what girl would even think about her boyfriend proposing? I know that every girl dreams of her wedding day, how it would look, and the way it would turn out. Planning a wedding is not an easy task like everyone thinks it is. Planning my wedding involved three main things; the date for the wedding, the type of dress that I would wear, last but not least, would be the type of venue I was going to have. Another main important thing is, where it would take place.…

Not so sure I would classify this as a donation since she said it was her way of paying me back. There were five people that I did not do favors for and out of the five people, only two people donated. I found this to be interesting because I never realized that some people help out of feeling…

For my act of kindness I teamed up with a few people to give the lady a backpack full of things that she could use. The backpack was full of hygiene products, snacks, gift cards and clothes. We did all of this within less than a week. I took the backpack to Starbucks and asked them to give her the book bag. It was important to me that my act of kindness was anonymous.…

This is not to make a judgement about my friend or to imply that I am some saint for talking to the homeless but her reaction reminded me of how i’ve noticed a lot of people tend to either to do one of two things when approached by the homeless, they either give money or ignore them completely. Everyone has their reasons for their behavior…

Over the past two months I have spent numerous nights filling yards with flamingos while the families inside slept unknowing of what was happening. I spent a night teeter tottering for six hours and made blankets the day after. When I worked at a grocery store I used to stop during my walk back, and return to buy groceries. These are all things I do nearly out of impulse because of how I was raised and who I am. Growing up I learned from a young age that if someone you know needs something, you give what you can.…

One thing I have learned in life is that not everyone will be similar to me. Other people will most likely have different values, experiences, and perspectives on life. When I was much younger, I dreaded meeting new people who I shared nothing in common. I feared we would not get along and this would lead to problems. However, my exposure to disparate people in sports, school, and work has helped me broaden my horizons and be better prepared to relate to others in the future.…

this day felt like the best day of my life until I came across a man wearing a small t-shirt which looks like belongs on a 4 year old and very filthy sweatpants. He looked like he hasn't taken a shower in months. The man was just laying on the side of the bridge holding a sign that was barely visible and it said “anything helps. I want to be happy.” I have always been very hesitant when giving money to the homeless because I did not know what they would use it on, the thing…

“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,” are the lyrics that remind a lot about myself. Growing up, and even about two years ago, I was insanely shy and did not talk much around people, friends, or family. The way I talked to people was in a timid, soft spoken way, which looking back, was awfully embarrassing. My friends and family would laugh at me because I could not talk well, and when I did talk, they acted as if I were a baby who just said its first words. With all of that nonsense going on, their idiotic response kind of made me not want to say anything anymore.…

An experience that changed my life was on May 19th, 2014, my brother’s death. It changed my life in a positive and negative way. You would think that death would devastate someone for the rest of their life, but my brother’s death actually changed my life. I’m not saying that his death didn’t have a negative effect on me, but it had more of a positive effect on me than anything. His death made me an introvert, think for myself, and see things differently.…
