Personal Narrative: A Place To Adopt

Superior Essays
I was heading to the pound, a place where cats and dogs are locked up waiting to be adopted. I nervously looked out the window of my mom’s car, wondering if I would get the cat I want. “Does the pound even have the cat I want? What if someone else adopts the cat I want?” I asked my mom, hastily waiting for a response. “I’m sure they will have the cat you want. Nobody will adopt the cat you want but you.” My mom’s soothing voice calmed my worries. I felt at peace.
I looked out the window to find that we were pulling in to the parking lot of this place. Parking the car, we went outside. I felt a surge of excitement run through me as I walked inside. I instantly smelled the horrid scent of rusting metal. I looked around, seeing the ceiling which was nowhere close to

I finally reached the end, where all of the adult cats were. They were just as playful as the kittens in the front. One was orange with deep amber eyes, who whipped around like an owl scaring me. “I certainly don’t want that cat.” I thought, moving on to the next cage. In there was a gray plump cat who was meowing every single second, trying to convince me to adopt him. I knew what would happen to these adult cats if they didn’t get adopted, sadly. They’d die. I felt so bad for the cats and considered getting one of them, but I quickly exited the aisle.
“Those poor cats...” I thought once more, hoping that they’d get adopted by a generous fellow. I decided to go back to the front where the orange and white kitten was at. Of course, he was waiting for me, sitting in an elegant position. But, when he heard the jingling of the cat toys, he instantly got into a fighting stance. I brought the toy close to the cage again, seeing him bat at it once again. I played with him for a while until I decided that I had to make my final decision. This kitten was too playful for me, if I couldn’t find the cat I truly want I would pick

He was a teddy bear. We called him Snickers. With my dad having a cat allergy, we could never let Snickers inside, so he spent most of his days in the garage or on our deck. On cold days he would wander up to our sliding glass door and do this little dance that we always called the “Snicker Dance.” This consisted of him putting his paws up on the glass door and kind of sliding…

When she found out she was shocked, “the reason it was deeded to the veterinary students was that the barn had bats and we were the only ones guaranteed to have a rabies vaccination” (Vogelsang 45). Near the end of the story when Jessica is explaining what happened to their deceased family dog, her young children misunderstand her message that their dog went to Heaven; her son said, “She’s going to Kevin” (Vogelsang 308). This simple statement brings light to the topic of their beloved pet’s passing. I sincerely recommend this memoir to everyone, especially animal lovers. Anyone who has ever had a pet will understand the wonderful messages in the story.…

Morgan’s narrative in her piece approaches death, something that traditional taxidermy avoids. This is so that the death of the taxidermied animal is not in the forefront of the viewer’s mind. Instead, traditional taxidermists, such as Akeley and Potter, approach life through lively content and visuals. Potter approaches human qualities of life through anthropomorphic kittens lined up for a wedding, an event that humans consider the “beginning of a new life.” His diorama “The Kitten Wedding,” is an anthropomorphic scene of a kitten wedding; a bride and groom stand toward one end of the rectangular diorama as a pastor stands in front of them watching the groom place a gold band around the bride’s finger (paw).…

Later, on another occasion, Ana described a vivid sexual encounter with two boys. She explained how she more or less ordered the boys to follow her into the woods behind the barn and she allowed them both to lick her and penetrate her. The way in which Ana told the story painted her as a sexually bored nymphomaniac, and this kind of thing was common for her. She shared other similar stories whenever the two ladies washed the dishes, away from the prying ears of the remainder of the Graham family.…

Appearance: Conventionally attractive, wide-eyed human male adolescent. Combined with his height at 6'4", he is almost never able to go without being noticed for better or for worse. He is rather slender with little to no fat or muscle as he has still not completely filled out due to his age - looks a lot weaker and unassuming than perhaps is warranted. While being rather agile and graceful in combat, he still has a certain sense of that awkward teen-ness. He wears his hair in an intentionally moppy, disheveled style; not unclean or unattractive, just lacking in attention.…

“ I neither expect nor solicit belief” the opening statement of an “Unreliable Narrator” a term, used to describe a narrator whose recollection of a tale is suspect – whether through willful deceit, immature naivete, or mental instability. The Unreliable Narrator forces the reader to question the validity, rather than the who, or what. In the short story “The Black Cat” the Narrator is what many would consider him a alcoholic sociopath. The Narrator exhibits personality traits such as; rage and abuse, lack of remorse, shame guilt, does not perceive that anything is wrong with them; authoritarian, secretive, paranoid, grandiose sense of self The Narrator speaks of how he is abusive to his wife on occasions, “I suffered myself to use intemperate language to my wife.…
