When I think of the soldiers getting together and playing games and having some drinks, it reminds me of get togethers that we have with our friends these days. Some of the games that the soldiers played back then we still have and play like dominoes, poker, backgammon, and checkers. I think it is pretty neat that the soldiers were able to create poker chips out of bullet heads and checker boards out of nothing but paper. They were even able to make some checker boards that had some of their pictures on them. Some other things they created were made of wood with what they call “whittling” and sometimes they even used bones from fallen soldiers. Absolutely beautiful things like jewelry, knifes, badges, and even some musical instruments. The music was almost like a free getaway to them and they played it on instruments we still use like the snare drum, flutes, and the concertina which reminds me of an accordion. They also used things instruments at some religious services that they held anytime they could and sang poems they had written like “Love That Passeth
