Along one wall, he noticed an old trunk with a rug type cover. Looking at the other wall with three locks on the door, and wondered if it led to another room or maybe it was a closet, discolored paint spots covered the walls. The house needed a paint job, along with carpet. Ignoring the stale odor thinking if Ernest could stand it, so could he.
Looking up the stairway, and noticed a door at the top with two padlocks on it.
There were two large dusty pictures hanging on the wall, one of a young man and woman dressed in wedding clothes. The other one was a girl sitting on a stool with a little boy standing nearby. Knowing he hadn’t seen either of them before, he thought they were pictures of his family. Noticing the spider webs in the corner, and knew he hadn’t dusted the room in years. “You have an interesting house,” he finally admitted, not knowing what else to say.
“This has been my home for years,” Ernest replied and motioned for him to sit down on the worn sofa. Glancing around the room, he questioned why he came into the house, but he was comfortable. “I’ll be right back,” Ernest said, leaving the room.
