Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

I am known for the "American System" and known as the "Great Compromiser," however I have accomplished and been through so much more than that. Born in 1777 in Hanover County, Virginia, I was exposed to American history since I was young. In 1797, I moved to Kentucky along with many others wanting to pursue careers in law and politics. My political career began in 1803 when I was elected to the Kentucky General Assembly then appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1806. I was Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams.…

I managed to reach a point where I began making false promises to myself and others about addressing my situation. Among those empty promises was the one where I claimed I would give up drinking, attend rehab and try to get my life back on track. When I was a teenager I worked in a donut shop. It so happened that the place was sold to a family and was not a corporately owned. In the hope of saving money, they decided to cut labor and asked the hostess’ to do all the cleaning, including the washrooms. The age I was at cleaning was not my cup of tea, therefore, I made it clear to the owners I will do everything else, but clean the washrooms, as I don’t even do that at home, and my mom wouldn’t even let me. The owner’s reply was, “you people should be used to that kind of work, what do you mean you can’t do it,” and a whole lot of other inappropriate things that I won’t get into.…

When I was young, my sister and I never got along well. Neither of us were afraid to voice our thoughts, but we had opposite personalities, so that was an enormous complication. She would constantly whine whenever I practice the violin or piano that I was too loud and it was drowning out the music she was listening to. In return, I would always retort that her music was too loud and distracting. Well, I never actually called it “her music”: I referred to it as “garbage”.…

This past summer, I had the opportunity to go zip lining for the very first time. I, as with anyone with a slight concern for dangerous heights, wasn’t too keen on dangling hundreds of feet off the ground, and was extremely anxious. Just before I was about to step off the edge, I remember my friends encouraging me, “Don’t worry, Marina! It’s as easy as riding a bike.” In some cases, riding a bicycle isn’t as easy as you would expect.…

The car started to stop slowly until it came to a complete stop. I then parked my car about 7ft behind the vehicle. I got out of my patrol car and started making my way towards the vehicle.…

Being sacred is one of the things that I would not like to be in for a long time. Why because being scared is one of the things that no human bean should every have to go throw? My first time being really scared was the time that I had to go get my blood drawn for genetic testing. My whole family had to go through this genetic testing that soon or later would develop thyroid cancer. This has been the only time in my lifetime that I have been really scared and did not know what to do or what to say.…
