“And the ones who are on the team are Katie, Ava, Ella, Lily, Emma, Bella, Ashley, Nicole, Jenna, Maddie, and Olivia.”. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was the best day, it was the most amazing day. It was the day that I, Olivia Davis, made the varsity soccer team.

I was so excited!
"Yes, I did it!" I yelled out in my head.
I had worked so hard for this. The other girls were the best in the school, and I was on their team! I was as happy as a clam. I was on top of the world.

Then, in the blink of an eye, I was on the bottom of the ocean. All of the other girls were best friends. They all had sleepovers together every night. Meanwhile, I was at home practicing to make sure I stayed on the team.

I wanted more than anything to get the ball. I didn't want to be stressed out or tired. I needed to be focused.

When I woke up, I played out in my head what could happen and what I would do. I watched games while I stretched. I wanted to win. I needed to win.

I waited for that clock to hit 12:00. Our game was at 1:00 and we needed to be there at 12:30. My worries were growing higher and higher as each minute passes by.

It was it was 11:30 and I couldn't wait any longer. I got in my uniform, did my hair, put my cleats on and grabbed a protein bar. I was ready to go. I grabbed my phone as my parents and I walked to the car.

Every soccer game I have ever had, I have always listened to music to calm me down on the way there. My headphones are so worn out that they are falling apart. We pull into the parking lot and I take a deep breath. "Ahh." It’s game time.

The game starts off ok, but they are really good. I was wanting to get the ball but no one passed it to me. We were losing 3-1 at halftime. The pressure was setting in. I need to get the ball, but how?

It was almost the end of the 2nd half and we were tied 4-4. I need to get the winning goal. It just seemed impossible to do it with only minutes

Alana let's go, it's time to stretch, " said Danielle, one of my teammates. I ran to where the rest of my team was, as I ran I could hear the sound of my soccer cleats sticking to the mud. Starting first grade I thought we were the top dogs because we got moved down to the bigger playground with the bigger kids. Since they knew we liked kick ball so much they built a kick ball diamond for us. There was just so much to do in the shortest amount of time. Everyday was a new day, I never did the same thing, whether it was playing on the upper part on the monkey bars seeing who could hang the longest or playing football with the guys. I can remember my first year at kickball I was taller than most of the guys because they haven’t hit their growth spurt yet, so everyone wanted me on their team because I was the only girl once again that was better than most of the guys.…

It all started in third grade when my parents got an email asking if I wanted to do traveling softball. I had just finished my first season of VAA softball and my friend Katie and I decided it sounded like fun. I didn't really know what it meant to be on a travelling softball team back then, I just thought it would be as laid back as VAA. My first year I loved it and I had lots of fun and made lots of new friends. I would practice with my dad often so that I could get better.…

By the time I sprinted onto the field for the start of the Jefferson Cup soccer final I had mentally prepared myself for the fierce showdown ahead. I had been playing soccer for most of my short life, giving up all other sports to concentrate on being a top player. In fact my whole family was committed to the game, so I guess you could say that I eat, sleep, and breathe soccer. I sure hoped that all my hard work would be translated into a big win that day. As I readied myself for the refs whistle to announce the start of the game, the hair on my neck stood straight up, and the adrenaline rushed through my body, filling every vein and artery.…
