I spent a good chunk of my time in the band hall either socializing or working to get better. The end of my sixth grade year has begun to reach its ending point, and I had signed up once again for both band and choir as my electives. Which meant that I had auditions sneaking right around the corner, a lot closer than most people anticipate. For band we go into the director’s office one at a time and play the director’s choice of scales and a sight reading. For choir we record alone in a practice room of us singing an excerpt from our music and a sight reading. We receive both results for our band and choir placements on the same day, the last day of school before summer starts. I take my first period exam. Wait. Take my eighth period exam. Wait. The bell rings and I am free to stop by the choir room to check my placement on my way to the band hall. Azul, the second choir, that’s what the sheet of paper hanging on the door said anyway.
