Personal Narrative-A Memoir Of My Own

Something about being around them makes me feel content inside. Massive creatures who are made so different, yet beautiful in their own ways. As a child, I was very curious and loved trying new things. Rarely was I ever still, however, one thing I would always sit still for was watching the cows. These animals have made up my past, helped me enjoy the present, and have created my future. The cattle barn is where I’ve found my bliss, my hope, my passion, and myself. As a little girl I loved nothing more than going over to Papa’s and watching him feed and count the cows. Or waking up early in the mornings to get up and go help feed the bottle calves, which we had several of throughout my childhood. Little did I know this was just the start for me, and the start of a passion that would spark a change in who I am. This interest I took in these wonderful animals really started to burn brighter when I was nine years old. This began with a simple question,“Mom, can I keep him for a bucket calf?” Her answer was yes, and the next thing I knew I had this calf in the barn and he was all mine. Now at the time I had no idea how to break, trim, feed, groom, or show this calf, but I did know he was my calf. First, I named him Buddy. Then, I …show more content…
The show barn is where I wanted to be. I may not have had my life figured out, but I wanted to be around cattle and the show stock industry for the rest of my life. These barns may be hazy from all the sprays, loud from all the blowers, heater or fans, and peoples’ excited voices, but that was why I loved it here. In here, responsibility, friendship, respect, humility, sympathy, teamwork, determination, and patience are all qualities that I have gained through my experiences with cattle that have shaped me into who I am, who I’m becoming, and who I want to

Religious Symbols are visual pieces of art or iconic presentation, used to represent a specific religion. A taboo is an act that is prohibited by the mainstream mostly based upon lack of social acceptance. This may due to its profound nature and how people analyze and interpret it morally. When looking at the Mescalero Apache, the base metaphor Farrer states ,that it represents the daily movement of the sun east to west and its annual movement south to north. “Balance and harmony are expressed in circularity” (Farrer 29).…

Have you ever heard a 2-year-old child suddenly shout out a football chant when they were that age and had no clue what it meant? If you haven't, you will be surprised to learn that I actually did that when I was that age. It was in December 1999 when my family had decided to go up to Pennsylvania to visit our relatives for the holidays. I wasn’t much of a talker at that time. As we were arriving at my Aunt Priscilla and Uncle Jim’s house, I sat quietly playing with one of my favorite stuff animals, a beanie baby named piggie.…

I remember while growing up, my parents (mostly my father) would ask when I was going to grow up and “get over horses”. I first fell in love with horses when I was four-years-old because of an Australian movie called “The Rogue Stallion” (1990) my mother bought when a Christian catalog had a sale on VHSs. The movie follows Anna, a teenager whose father works with horses and is accidentally killed by a spooked horse one day. Anna’s mother wants her daughter to have nothing to do with horses, especially the wild Brumby stallion her father’s old rival is set on destroying.…

On a warm Sunday afternoon, my family and I went to my grandma’s (Nanny) house in Pelham to have a barbeque in her backyard. I had just turned 7 a few days before, so I was constantly playing on my new Gameboy advance sp; it was my favorite color, blue. I ran out of church to Nanny’s black BMW, sat in the front seat and began playing Dogs on my Gameboy. Soon after, she came, started the car, and began driving to her house. Mom and the rest of my family decided they would meet us there after they changed their clothes.…

It was among the first few days of June, and my fourteen-year old self hopped out of my mom’s car, with a quizzical look on my face. I was attending the orientation and briefing for the group known as Pony Power, a non-profit organization giving special needs and at-risk children a unique opportunity to ride, care for, and interact with horses. My mom knew the owner, and had signed me up to volunteer here over the summer to help with this organization’s horse therapy. Thoughts were swirling through my head – “I have nothing in common with these people!…

The feeling of relief that an entire year’s work is coming to an end, just to start over, whether it’s feeding all winter, morning and night -- Christmas, and New Year's or the sense of progression seeing a rockless field, with exhausted hamstrings or not. It’s seeing all the new babies taking their first steps, and the sound of a calf’s first breath after successfully pulling him, and the sight of bails stacked neatly in the hay yard. Even the second crop of the summer isn’t thick, not as lush, but it’s enough. From first glance, it’s easy to resent something so trivial as a field below the shop. I could say I hate that field, but I don’t.…

It was an early autumn morning on farmer Henry's magnificent farm. I was quietly sitting on the old wooden, barn door when I heard my brother, Joshua, saying “Robyn, is the farmer coming yet?” As I looked around the farmer was nowhere to be seen, so I simply replied with “not yet, he is probably still sleeping.” I heard a groan coming from inside the barn and then a loud thud. Joshua had obviously fallen off his large bed of hay.…

I am his best friend, I find humor in his disposition and antics as he will always be a child mentally and I will always be an advocate for him. In some areas I can relate to his life. What one sees in front of him is a strong motivated young woman. However, he is unaware of how this individual came to be. A once shy, timid, and inexperienced little girl has turned into an outgoing, adventurous, and skillful person over the last four years. After thinking about my life to this current point, I came to the conclusion that there are three domains that socialize every individual: family, environment, and personal experiences. I was a six pound fifteen ounce brown haired baby that was born on November 23rd, 1996, to Ronald and Vera Judge. I joined a multicultural family that already had a one-year-old infant, Rachel Judge.…
