It was a cold, dark night in the woods. I was on a prison bus to a maximum security prison in a classified location in Russia. All I know about this prison is that it is home to the meanest and dangerous criminals out there and it is located somewhere in the Northern areas in Russia. Our bus was just going through this bridge in the middle of the woods. The windows were blocked up by ice and steam. None of the criminals in this bus wanted to escape because, the survivability rate is very low.

I was a soldier that was fighting on the Anchorage front line defensive. We were forced to surrender after they launched a huge artillery and airstrike bombardment that weakened our forces making us more spread out.

I noticed that me and my squad of four where the only Americans in this prison. When I followed the trail of inmates towards the gate I saw the sign of the name of the prison which was, “Шлюз на небо” or “ gateway to heaven “. It was really

We immediately surrounded the guards. The next thing you know, they were all beaten up. Me and Edgar sat down on a bench that was reserved for prison guards only while all the inmates were trying to take over the prison. “ In this prison nobody is a leader.” Edgar said. We watched the continuous rage of inmates in the prison. Some people were using molotov cocktails and other homemade weapons. I have heard the court system in Russia is one if not the weakest system in the world. After the inmates have taken over the prison, we marked our victory by adding a date on the wall “ December 8,

It is heartbroken to look at a picture of a little boy locked up in a room with brick walls, a hard bed with a thin mattress on top, and a window on top of the wall or at least that’s how it appears the way the light is entering the room. It makes me think what if that were my son. That is the first image we look at when reading the informative article of the Caging of America. Mr. Gopnik the writer of the article presents us with the “six million people under correctional supervision in the United States - more than were in Stalin’s gulags” (1). He gives us a comparison between the Soviet prison and American prison.…

Let me start out by saying that I lived in Susanville California for four years and I am not fond of the culture of Prison towns. I met quite a few people that worked there and they are definaley a different breed of cat. As a nurse I have also known a lot of nurses that have worked there and the majority of them tell me it is not the prisoners that you have to look out for it is the staff. They tend to be just a step away from being criminals themselves. Any institution that is that large such as the Veteran’s Administration, the especially the California Prison system is full of problems.…

A somber April breeze lifted the damp hair at his temples and ruffled the hem of my tattered blanket, as the bus jolted over the pothole-strewn prison road and finally arrived at the correctional institution, where A.R., my child, was to meet his incarcerated father for the first time in 7 years. My stomach fluttering and my hands quivering conspicuously more than A.R., I began to question the fervor that led me here, into this desolate facility housing prisoners who, as the prison guard describes, “committed the worst felonies possible, from murder to trafficking to everything in between”. My eyes honed on the horde of men in dark uniforms parading back and forth, impatiently, as they took turns peering through the sole window in the once vacant room. The door separating my child and his father stood approximately nine feet high, a brooding, grey mass of steel beams and mesh. There was no beauty in the design-rather it was bleak and uninviting.…
