Personal Narrative: A Life Changing Experience As A Soccer Player

I can remember when I was fourteen years old playing in the Florida Soccer League becoming a very prominent player in the state. I was growing so much as player while making my coaches and family proud. I always was seen as a special player to all my coaches in Florida, but that would change in the eyes of other soccer coaches when I moved Georgia. This was a life changing experience for me because of the adjustments I had to make to my playing style. I never had to face so much adversity in the sport of soccer until I moved to Georgia.
It was January of 2016 when I arrived to the high school practice fields to tryout for the varsity soccer team. I had already been cut the year before so I was even more determination to make the team this year. Also, I performed well in preseason training so I was hoping for a better outcome. I had two days to try and prove myself to coach and accomplish a goal that I had failed to achieve to the year before. During the whole tryout I was so focused on proving myself to everyone that I deserved to be on the team rather than focusing on playing to the best of my ability. Tryouts had ended and again I made the junior varsity team and failed to accomplish the goal of playing in my high school’s stadium as a varsity player.

It was my chance to play at the highest level in the country. During the tryouts, my skills were sharp, all my passes were connecting and I was dribbling by players effortlessly. I could tell my skills had improved because I was performing at a high level against some of the state's best. After 2 days I made the team and that's when I knew all my hard work paid off. I finally had the same amount of confidence that I used to have back in Florida. After all those months of agony I learned that focusing on my goals rather than other distractions brought out my true

Our attitude led to us hitting a losing streak, until we played Cleveland Football Club, the 3rd highest ranked team in the mid-west region, we ended up losing to the team by one in a 2-3 game. This game gave us hope, we ended up playing teams hard again and winning most of the second half of our season. By the end of the season the team ended up falling apart, some players left to go to one team, some to another, I however ended up being the only person going to Cleveland Football Club. I went to the tryouts where I felt very comfortable because I had played on the same team as most of the guys there back at Brunswick travel. After three tryout practices, I found my spot on the team being one of the few who ended up making it onto the…

Heartbreak and hours of crying–that was the aftermath of finding out I didn’t make the travel basketball team in the fifth grade. I started playing recreational basketball for Montville in the third grade; since then, I had dominated the competition as I hit my growth spurt earlier than most of my friends. Not only was I taller than most of the kids I played with, but I was also faster and stronger. Coming into the tryout, I was confident in my abilities and believed that I would make the team. Upon finding out the results of the tryouts, I was devastated and felt cheated because I thought I was better than some of the kids that made the team.…
