I agree with your post. I also felt that with each state having a myriad of laws that aren’t necessarily congruent with other states, let alone the federal government, would make it difficult if not impossible to have a single court. Therefore, with the way our system is set up, it is a necessity to have a multi-tiered court. When looking at the downside, I hadn’t contemplated the fact of jurisdictional conflict.…

President Barack Obama once said “When all American are treated as equal, no matter who they are or who they love, we are all more free.” As a Hispanic LGBTQ American, these words resonated with me. In my exposure to a plethora of cultures, in my personal experience and academic career, I have had the privilege to understand and further appreciate many lifestyles. Through these experiences, my mission: to serve toward compassion and respect, rather than intolerance and isolation, has remained clear. These past 8 years, Obama has been a champion for LGBTQ+ Americans.…

My environment cannot be described as “diverse” as Hialeah's population is mostly composed of Hispanics and my personal life consist of my parents and three real friends. Meeting Ayaan during my stay at Columbia was a welcoming experience that inspired me to learn more about others and their world. I met Ayaan while she was studying for her "Legal Reasoning, Research, and Writing" course during lunch, when a mutual friend introduced us. Our first few conversations were about academic related subjects such as social problems and the significance of the legal system in the United States. While neuroscience was my concentration, Ayaan's passionate views towards civil rights called to me as her words reminded me of my origins.…

It all began on a humid Wednesday night late in August. Freshman orientation at Bethel College had just come to a close, and the first day of classes was looming in the distance much like a dark, ominous storm cloud fast approaching on the horizon. I, like many of my dorm mates, was very anxious about the coming year. I remember the night vividly: I was sitting on my bed listening to Twenty-One Pilots. I had just concluded an evening at the sand volleyball pit located behind my dorm.…
