Friday Mornings I rushed my full stomach to my room and I pulled out the bottom of my semi formal clothings and pants drawer. Being the control freak that I am, I also picked out my brother’s outfit. My mother was kind enough to let me select my own outfit to school as a second grader. Enrolled in a small, private, and conservative Christian school, where the moms are very in everyone’s business; not many of my friends were allowed to pick out their “free friday” outfits. Although now, I wish my mother would restrict some of the things I wore.…

Flames engulfed my blurred vision as my sobbing, curled up figure choked and convulsed. Oxygen depleted from my lungs as the smoke quickly drew in to replace it. The blazing inferno roared in my ears -- over my piercing screams -- demanding that it be heard. I could feel the intensifying heat, but I was numb to the imminent burns; I was numb to everything. The sky began to blacken, as did my perception.…

A person takes my shaw from me and I thank him.…

Tuesdays are the best discount days at thrift stores. My mother sometimes took my sisters and I window shopping. Peeking into seemingly ancient items reminded me of biblical stories; bowls with lions and calves adumbrated Isaiah’s prophecy of peace. Noticeable differences of others can be fun way to start conversations, sharing stories and creating friendships. Elongated vowels and straight to the point messages ensued laughter between former strangers.…

Much of my troubles with Joanne actually begins with Danette. Danette would often come to my office to complain about Joanne. This happened maybe 4 or 5 times. It was always the same thing, Joanne was complaining that she wasn't getting any support staff help, and was critical of Katrina and Alyssa. Danette would basically say that Joanne wouldn't need any support staff help if she wasn't so slow.…

God has given us this amazing opportunity for next year, and we have the faith and trust of those who are a lot higher up than us. They are handing us this gift of creating something that will, hopefully, be here for many years after we graduate. God would not give all of this to us if He knew we wouldn't be able to handle it. " Even those who are young grow weak; young people can fall exhausted.…

It was a gorgeous, but frigid Wednesday afternoon in January as I made it to Wadsworth library around two o’ clock. Checking my watch, I made sure it was two. I was meeting my best friend, Zaire for lunch and when I tell you that he’s a stickler for time, the boy’s been on time for everything since I first met him in ninth grade. The library was quiet with patrons on the computers while some older folks were playing chess in the back corner.…

According to Dunbar (1997), By time humans hit age 18 on average the know somewhere near 60,000 words, which means an average of 10 new words a day from their first birthday (p. 7). As humans we are the only species on the planet with a complex communication system allowing us to have a different kind of understanding and purpose to our life span than other living beings. According to Brunner, narratives shape our immediate experience and influencing our perception of what is real and what must be real (Bruner, 2010: p. 45). These narratives are simple apart of our genetic make-up and play an enormous role in our culture and in family life.…
