How would you feel if you came to work one day only to find someone sitting at your desk, using your equipment and eating your food?
Now you can imagine my shock when that happened to me this summer. I was hired by a sleep-away camp to be the dance instructor for the entire summer and I worked successfully for the entire first trip. Then, on the first day of the second trip I found two girls in my dance room, using my equipment, and enjoying themselves immensely. They told me that they were the dance instructors. Initially I thought of leaving, then of staying, then again of leaving. I had an offer to be the dance instructor in a different camp and thought of going there so all my hard work and preparation would not go to waste. Preparing for this job took over my life and all I was able to think about were the dance moves I would teach. Besides I was indignant; the camp effectively fired me from my position without notice. Finally, I decided to stay and persevere because I had signed up to work for this camp and I had to do my part even though the camp did not do its part.
My decision was now made and I desperately needed a job, a job with a lot of movement. Although I could not make the kids' summer enjoyable through my dance classes I was determined to do it some other way. My employer suggested I work as either an art or office assistant, but to me those were not choices; the jobs were sitting jobs with barely any movement.
