Personal Narrative: A Great Job

Great job Jalaine! Your video kept my attention the whole time. I wanted to learn more about puppy mills and how to avoid them. You did a great job at being enthusiastic and I could tell you were passionate about this topic. Your eye contact with the audience and camera was great. Your visual aid was great! One thing I noticed that could be slightly distracting is the dog barking, walking, and panting in the background, however it did not bother me too much I thought it was actually quite fitting since you were talking about dogs. The only other thing I noticed is that once or twice you paused and looked past the camera as if something was distracting

There are several experiences in my life where I have felt that I was treated in an unfair manner, but the most recent of those experiences is the one that occurred to me only months prior to this application. Up until the beginning of November of this year, I used to believe that being a great and successful student would be the most rewarding accomplishment of my senior high career. As a result of this, I unwisely assumed that the most important thing in my life was how well I could do on the next test. I spent a meager amount of my time involved in anything else aside from my homework or studying; expecting to be fairly remunerated for a majority of my hard work. Earlier this year, I was indeed rewarded with an application to National Honors…

This passion for animals has not only maintained itself as I have grown and gained new experience and knowledge, but it has evolved immensely. When I was eleven, I began training in the sport of dog agility, where a handler and their dog run through a complex obstacle course. Being a young and nimble grade schooler, I quickly adapted to the sport and its challenges. Although my first dog, Dixie, had many training challenges, our abilities to work through them made us successful. My struggles with her training, accompanied by many tears, carefully shaped me into a better trainer and handler both in and out of competition.…

After 2 weeks of tireless searching I landed a job at Ariya Capital; an experienced developer and investor in clean energy and infrastructure projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

Considering the busy schedule, last minute priorities, family, and civilian education, I really don’t have much time in a day to deal with all that and then reflect on how everything is going. Class and my students take priory of my schedule and during the duty day, everything else I prioritize by suspense date and gravity of the issue. I do have some great coworkers that I discuss my problems and frustrations with, which is a great outlet and it does allow me to reset and not lose my mind. Generally, I take Saturday’s a down day to where I just hand out with my family at home or we go out to visit places in the surrounding area.…

I can remember my first day of work at my present job and thinking what am I supposed to do here? Not really knowing what was expected of me, but I was eager to learn the job and the responsibilities that came along with it, just to prove that I was the person for the job. From that day forward, I was always under someone wings learning new tasks, impressing my supervisors and coworkers at the same time. After 60 days of working, I had my first one on one feedback session with my leaders. I believe I have learned many things in my life. I have learned why the sky is blue, how the cardiovascular system works, how to convert inches into centimeters and that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Among all these things, I have also come to understand that in life, there is always something else to learn. There is always a new experience to be had, or a story to be told, that has the capacity to open someone’s eyes to a tremendous land of liberties, or teach them what it is like to come from a place where all have been stripped from you. In writing this essay, we were asked to look into our family’s history and try and unearth an heirloom that somehow wove together our story of strife and our journey to freedom.…
