Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

I began to ask over and over again if I could still try out, no one knew how badly I wanted to be on the Varsity team even with my leg completely discombobulated. The trainer told me I’d be fine and recover in enough time , which I later found out he was just saying so I could stay calm, but the truth was my leg wouldn’t fully be healed for months. After much persuasion from everyone around me I decided to let the trainer pop my patella back in so I wouldn’t have to go to the hospital. I bit down hard on a t-shirt and counted to three then we straightened my leg out. Finally the easy part was over….…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

The turning point of my college football career came early in my third year. At the end of the second practice of the season, in ninety-five-degree heat, our head coach decided to condition the entire team. Sharp, excruciating pain shot down my legs as he summoned us repeatedly to the line to run wind sprints. I collapsed as I turned the corner on the final sprint. Muscle spasms spread throughout my body, and I briefly passed out.…

My whole life I’ve been a little different. From the clothes I wear and the way I present myself, to the way I look at the world, I’ve always been somewhat peculiar. Not peculiar in a bad way, but in an interesting, provocative kind of way. I am the weird greenish-yellow crayon in the box that no one ever uses. I was born in Anchorage, Alaska.…

I woke up the next day feeling horrible; the painkillers had worn off, and I needed to use the restroom badly. Even worse, I was hungry, but I couldn’t get out of bed. I checked the time and it was six in the morning and because nobody was awake to entertain me, I started thinking about my love for cheer. I wasn’t going to let some minor injury stop me from pursuing my passion. My mom had mentioned that the orthopedic doctor cleared me for any non-contact sports, so I could still tryout for cheer.…
