Personal Narrative: A Girl With A Dream

A Girl With a Dream Sunday, November 23, 2014 was just another day for most people. For me, however, it was the best day of my entire life. My oldest brother, his friend, and I were attending Survivor Series, a WWE paper-view, at Scotts Trade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri. On that day I felt as if I was apart of something that was larger than life itself. I wittnessed my future unfold before my very eyes. That was the day I realized my dreams of becoming a professional wrestler. The night before was like Christmas eve; I could not sleep from all the excitement. I tossed and turned all night. Just the thought of going to my first ever wrestling event made a smile appear on my face. It felt as if that Sunday took longer to come than most

All brought back because of the one thing we all have in common, wrestling. Whether it be meeting again as parents, watching our sons or daughters wrestle, or even as future coaches. And one day, when my appetite for wrestling has been sated, I'll come home from work, go down to the basement, pull out an old box, pull out a pair of dusty wrestling shoes, and just enjoy the flood of memories that swarm me thinking about my time spent under a lone spot light illuminating a mat, in a dim-lit loud hotel room, or on a crowded bus traveling to a meet listening to the laughter of the people I love. No matter where I go, no matter what I do, I'll always remember the time I spent here, every day that I live. Thank…

In Brown Girl Dreaming, for me at least, it was hard to find direct quotes that represented feminism and women empowerment. Instead, I looked at the book as a whole. As I previously mentioned, feminism does have woman’s rights in sight, but it also aims to reach for gender equality. Woodson goes above and beyond that. As a child, she became fascinated with poetry, especially the works of Langston Hughes.…

I was waiting for the match ahead of me to be over. I hear the loud whistle come from the match and I walk over to the head table to check in. Butterflies were flying around my stomach. The people at the table hand me my band and I jog over to my coach, and see my opponent, the state champ. I put my green band on as my coach says “All you have to do is win the match and we win the duel.”…

As I ate breakfast, I talked to my dad about strategy, opponents, and if I was confident going into the day. I admitted I was a little nervous, but my dad assured me that it was going to be a good day. So, with a little pep in my step and warm waffles in my belly, I headed out the door into the cool winter morning, loaded my stuff in the car, and buckled in for the ride. Today was the Southeastern Regional tournament for wrestling. This year the Southeast Regional was held in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Gwinnett Center.…

The individual I observed was a varsity wrestler from Socastee high school. When I was observing the whole practice he was the one wrestler who stood out to me the most. He was a returning wrestler from the 2 past year and it was finally his time to rise in the spot light. From the way it looked he has matured a lot since last year when the team was full of senior leader. He also looks like he has developed a lot physically with additional muscle gains and height.…

Dreams can sometimes feel so real and when they do; boy, it can be very scary. A few nights ago I was having a really bad dream - a nightmare you could say. I don't remember exactly what was happening in the dream but what I do recall is being aware that I was dreaming. That alone was very strange because I've never had a dream where I knew it wasn't real while it was happening. My dreams have always felt very real and I’ve always been helplessly trying to figure out an escape.…
