The statement “participated in Varsity football”, doesn't nearly come close enough to explain the amount the impact that football has had on my life. Next to my parents and my church, football has shaped me to the person I am today more than anything else. As I look back on my high school career the words of Vince Lombardi hold more truth than ever when he said “Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” Football has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember. From watching Ohio State games with my family every saturday, the first book I read was the ohio state encyclopedia, to counting down the days until I was old enough to play myself. I remember dreaming of playing high school football each night, and developing the love for the game at such a young age. I was apart of the first “Minis” program at my school. The age group was from kindergarten-2nd grade and i was one of four kids in the youngest group. It all started right then and there, i knew from that day on that i was “Made for football”, as i so proudly told my Dad who played football himself …show more content…
I had just come off Quarterbacking my class to a league title, and I had my sights on making an impact on a struggling high school program. However contrary to what I expected, instead of quarterback, the team needed me at defensive line. Very early on in my freshman year, I learned humility. I found out extremely quickly exactly how much hard work it took to be successful. I watched the seniors I looked up to, worked extremely hard, only to be steamrolled each friday night as we finished that season 1-9. It was I knew from that point on, that if i wanted to be successful when it was my time, my senior year, i was going to have to put everything I had into it.
