What is a God? Is He a higher being someone made up to feel better when people did something bad? Or the “person” that is up in the sky waiting for us to join Him after we die? Or a real, loving, caring higher power whose always has your back? A Christian God is a God who holds all morals and who does not want to see His people hurting, but wanting them to succeed and have a great life.…

It was a cold bitter night on the 1st of December in 2012. I decided to try out a new hunting spot for the first time. I knew that it was going to be much colder because i did not have any walls around me to protect me from the brutally cold wind. The temperature gauge read a bone chilling 5 degrees, and i knew that it was only going to get worse as the day came to an end. I made sure to wear extra clothes and to dress in layers for the long five hours that I have ahead of me sitting up against a tree.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

A week ago Jazmyne and Noah wanted to slide down it, apparently Noah was sledding on it with the snowmobile and Phil. so we used him as our guide around the hill. I took one look at the steep side and decided I'm not fast enough. You could see the sun reflecting of the ice on the steep side, it was a perfect angle and enough to throw yourself ahead if there was any bumps. We all decided to sled down behind it, We also agreed to go down two times because it was really hard coming up.…

I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…

A normal day without feminism... the thought alone frightens me. The most important acts in the past made my life today much easier. We don’t have true equality yet, but the civil rights and feminist movement made things much easier for me to live in this day and age as a black woman. If the feminist movement never happened, I believe I would gain a few simplistic things, I also believe there would be a lot of suffering that would go along with those benefits.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

As I wake up before the sun is above the horizon to go hunting, in this camper with a couple small mattresses I wipe my eyes with the palm of my hand to remove the crust away from my eyes. It feels like brushing off wet sand from a warm piece of leather. Noticing that I am the last one to wake up, quickly I dress in heavy clothing from my suitcase. As I walk out across the driveway to enter the house, I feel uneasy and afraid with a sinking feeling in my stomach and chest to be outside and alone in the dark. While feeling this way I can smell the dew covered trees and the damp soil from the melting snow.…

As I open the door to walk through my backyard, the cold quickly stings my face, legs, and hands, I realized that the walk I was about to begin would be a long and terribly bitter time. So I shut the door behind myself and started out on my adventure, walking slowly, to take in as much as I could. I noticed that overnight the ground was covered in beautiful shimmering white snow, so perfect and immaculate, it almost seemed like a waste to tread over and ruin the lovely display over my property. While I continued further into the cold I looked out at my pond and saw that it has iced over completely and fully frozen, frozen enough to walk on. So I put one step on the pond still a little unsure and not wanting to get wet and frozen!…
