A Day That Made a Difference: Meeting the Senator The day that I met Senator Rick Santorum was a day that made a difference to me. Meeting Rick Santorum made a difference to me because I was shown traits that are essential for leadership. On March 3, 2016, I was at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. I was there to hear conservative speakers and leaders from throughout the country. I sat in the front row of the auditorium at the Gaylord National Convention Center and listened to the foremost leaders of the conservative movement speak. I heard Governor Scott Walker, Governor Gary Johnson, Ambassador John Bolton, Speaker Paul Ryan, and Wayne LaPierre, the president of the National Rifle Association of America, just to name a few. Being an attendee of the conference, I was …show more content…
The volunteer then walked me into the room and there stood Rick Santorum. This was a very exciting moment for me. Here stood a Senator that I had respected and studied for years. And I was about to meet him. I walked up to the Senator and was surprised by what he said to me. “I love capitalism too!” The Senator said. I was unsure of why he said this, but then I realized that I was still wearing a sticker that said “I Love Capitalism.” I was given the sticker by some girls from a youth organization that was presenting in the auditorium. I had completely forgotten about it until he said this. “Oh…yeah…” I was caught off guard and stumbled to find the words to say to the Senator. I then stuck out my hand and introduced myself to the Senator and we posed for a photograph together. I then told him about my board of review proceeding when I was a candidate for Eagle Scout. I told him about the lady on the board asking me if there was any person that I felt embodies the Scouting spirit, that I look up too, and I replied “Rick Santorum.” “Wow. That is such a compliment.” The Senator said. “Where are you from?” He asked me.

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. It was a gloomy day from it being so cloudy and cold. I was talked into walking home during school by friends whom, at the time didn't care about school as much as I did, cared nothing of school. I didn’t like it, but then again I started not to care either.…

Congressman Dinner Reflection I found our dinner with the former United States Congressmen, Dan Miller and Sam Coppersmith, to be extremely rewarding. Listening to their stories of events occurring in congress, and even their own personal lives, was an appreciable experience. Not only was it very informative, but it was also a display of something not commonly witnessed in politics. From reading the congressmen’s biographies before their visit, I noticed that their political views seemed to fall on opposite ends of the spectrum.…

The line spanned street after street, it seemed. I waited for what felt like hours, watching the line ahead dwindle as the Barnes and Nobles workers funnelled us into the store, prodding the line up three flights until we reached that lone table, stacked high with bright orange books whose spines and covers read, in black matte letters, THE GLIMMER by RICHARD DUKE. I’d already read it twice now, bought three copies and lined them on the bookshelf in my shitty little apartment living room neatly, beside all the rest of Duke’s books. Every year since I was seventeen, Richard Duke published a book. He was an amazing horror writer, his words so well crafted they might’ve been spun by fucking demons to make us fall in love and fear them.…

T he roots of discrimination are often based on color and gender. These divisions and judgments can be made at first glance and are easy to identify. An equally concerning source of discrimination is more transparent and harder to detect. Neuro-diversity lies in those people who are socially awkward and have diagnosed syndromes (e.g. ADHD, Aspergers) that affect the way they interact with people. In my generation, the number of people who are diverse in this way has drastically increased.…
