On December 19, 2009, I decided to take change my life, this was the day I enlisted in the United States Navy. Only 18 years old, fresh out of high school with no money for college, this felt like the only option. My journey started on February 24, 2010. I stepped on the plane leaving behind my family and friends. Arriving in Great Lakes, IL at the recruit training command. Being there with approximately 43 other women and 44 other men who also made the decision to serve, I was not alone. Then boot camp began. I spent approximately eight weeks in recruit training command with people who seemed to grow on you.
