Personal Narrative-A Day In The Classroom

Improved Essays
Before beginning this assignment I thought I knew exactly what was going to happen in the twenty-four hour period. I was going to keep my phone on me as a clock only, so I was not late to any of my lectures, I was going to carry a sketchbook around with me all day, and the only difference between that day and any other day was going to be that I would not be texting anyone or checking my e-mail all day. However, I was later proved completely wrong and that day was nothing like I thought it would be. I did carry a sketchbook with me all day and I sketched Geisel library, Conrad Prebys Music Center and the sunset over the cliffs. None of them were complete sketches because I decided to start all of them just a few minutes before my lectures …show more content…
The best part about that is that the day of the assignment it was completely cloudy and my last lecture ended at six o’clock, which is immediately before the sun sets. My friend and I all but ran to cliffs above Black’s beach to watch a sunset that we could not see. That experience was all the better without the need to look at my phone at the same time; I could just live in the moment with a beautiful view and a great friend. There was only one downside I could find during my day without screens, I could not talk to my best friend. She goes to Truman State University in Missouri. I miss her incredibly and I love being able to connect with her, so it was weird not being able to talk to her consistently. That is something that I will not be giving up anytime soon. I plan to keep some of the experiences I had in my daily life. I am going to keep my phone away when I am in a social situation so I can focus on the people around me.I will be better at talking to people without worrying about what is happening on my phone. I also want to keep a sketchbook with me more often and practice my art on a regular basis. These habits will help me be more constructive in my daily

Room 0742 is a studio design room located in king pavilion at the Iowa State University college of design. In a way it represents the beginning of my journey at Iowa State, for it is the first class room I had ever been in as a student, and its represents hours and hours of hard work and dedication to my major. It is a rather bittersweet place with times where it became a place to put my work on display as well as a place to spend many long nights and very early mornings working and developing. The space itself physically is not a room by traditional means it has no doors and stall like walls that rise above the ground six to eight inches as well as an opening at the top.…

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

I was drowning out the world with the music playing through my phone, twirling the headphone cord around my finger. My hand brushed across the paper as I erased some pencil markings. I observed the text on the brightly lit screen of my chromebook, searching for the answers to the questions on my homework. I stared at the screen with a look of confusion on my face. Little did I know that the next few moments would put my hard work to some use.…

Venturing off-campus to the nearby Dutterer Family Park, I was despondent. Perhaps it was because I was thinking about how and when I was going to complete this assignment or maybe it was that I was missing home. Whatever the case, I was melancholy. Upon arrival, I sat myself on a nearby wooden bench, took out the assignment sheet, the photo mat, a piece of paper, and a pencil. Still feeling gloomy, I closed my eyes and took a few minutes to clear my mind.…
