I packed the essentials into my small drawstring bag that I was going to bring to her house for the night. I raced around upstairs stuffing the small bag with unnecessary things. I bounded down the steps as my mother was waiting by the door.

"Ready to go?" My mother asked opening the front door.

After we said our goodbyes and ended the call the rest of the morning went smoothly and soon my mother was at the door ready to take me home. After the car ride home of trying to not let my mother see the bruise that had formed under my eye, I quickly escaped the conversations of my family to get to my room. I couldn’t believe the size of the light purplish color surrounding my cheek. I never would have thought that something like this would occur in our friendship. After spending the weekend debating what I was going to say to Carly and explaining to everyone who asked how the bruise was formed, it was soon monday morning. I walked into school that morning and saw her walking towards the classroom

Being a high school student is composed of restless nights, and eight exhausting hours of classes in which you are obligated to stay awake in. A normal school day begins with me snoozing my alarm about ten times before my dad walks into my room telling me the dreaded “time to get up for school” reminder which I just take as a suggestion. Normally I will drag myself into the bathroom about ten minutes later to begin my routine. I spend about 40 minutes in the bathroom preparing myself for school and by the time I am done it is usually time to grab all of my things and barely catch the bus. Now this has to be my least favorite part of the day.…

During my childhood, there was always one woman that captivated me; the way she could fix a car in minutes, how she could calm down my mother with a few soft words and touches, the way she seemed to know the answer to questions that didn’t have an answer. “How many stars are in the sky?” I asked her once, after learning the vastness of the universe. I knew I’d get her this time. We were sitting outside, gazing up at the sky, which was the clearest I’d ever seen it.…
