Personal Narrative: A Career In The Military

All my life my family and I have traveled the world. This opportunity was possible because of my father’s career in the Army. With my father’s high ranking in the military made me teach myself many skills that have changed me for the better. I believe that the military will teach me more valuable skills I can use throughout my life after high school. The military is a great career to have because of the benefits, skills, and experiences that will be available to me in the future. Working for the military will allow me to have benefits. These benefits include things like TRICARE, military pay, retirement, and the opportunity to go to college without worrying about prices. While or after I have done that, the next step is to retake my SAT and ASVAB. This is so that I can get a good education from college to have more benefits available and also to have more freedom over what I will do in the military. To help pay for my education, I will have access to the GI Bill, which is a method for soldiers to pay for a higher education without having to pay much out of pocket. Finally, I want to be able to retire at a good age so that I can transition to civilian life by using the skills I have acquired in the military. I will be able to find a new …show more content…
When going to enlist in the military there are only a few requirements. First, you must be a citizen of the US. Next, you must be in good health and be in the age range from 17-40. Lastly, you must have completed high school and have passed the ASVAB test. The duties of a US soldier vary depending on what you join as enlisted personnel or as an officer. Enlisted personnel tend to participate in and support military operations, combat training, or disaster relief. In addition, they operate, maintain, and repair equipment, as well as maintain the junior enlisted personnel. The officers have different responsibilities compared to the enlisted personnel. They tend to have a larger role by managing the enlisted plus plan and lead troops in military operations. Officers also have the ability to command and operate military vehicles, such as ships, aircraft, and other armored vehicles. Finally, Officers are able to provide medical, legal, engineering, and other different types of services to other soldiers. No matter what type of soldier you are there is one thing they all have in common, which is to keep up the US’s nation
