Personal Narrative: A Career In The Medical Field

In this course so far, things started off relatively worrisome and stressful but things began to look up and get better but this is in relation to the internship. In regards to the class, things are going well and organized. I think one way to improve or to maintain the positive status of the class is to keep up with updates, remind class of any assignments coming up or what is due. While this is up to the student’s responsibility to be well organized and on top of their work, it does help aid in staying organized when you have a busy schedule and many other classes and other assignments that are due. Other than that, the quick email and DB responses are always a plus/positive. I am also interning at Kaiser at GSAA (Fremont, Union City, Hayward, …show more content…
My internship goals for this quarter is to gain more experience in the work-field and to also observe the professional work-field. I also want to develop more connections and interpersonal relationships with people in the professional work-field. I want to develop skills in communication, organization, working with groups, getting the courage to talk to strangers, and learning to provide a positive service to patients in the medical environment. One thing that I observed from my supervisor is that she mentions the importance of networking and getting to know the staff members and to also overcome your fears of speaking in front of people. We also have to communicate well with one another and be flexible and to help one another in case we have a question. My first day interning, I observed that while at times it is intimidating to approach someone at first, especially when they look like they are in a hurry, they do try and listen to you and if you are presentable and smile they will also be friendly in return and it makes approaching people less …show more content…
In addition, we also ask for their member photo id to put onto their Electronic Medical Record for security purposes and to build patient-physician familiarity. Kaiser Permanente really emphasizes preventive care by promoting their benefits and trying to remind their patients of their health screenings. So, for my topic I would like to research and write about preventive care and health screenings as it correlates to my duties in my internship in addition to the healthcare field. It is important to conduct research and write about this topic because one of the first things to prevent the onset of any disease is to first take the steps that prevents it from happening. It is also important to be reminded of any health screenings that are due and to catch any diseases early on. The government also spends millions of dollars on insurance when money can be saved if more people spent more time on preventive care rather than managing their disease. Preventing the onset of diseases can save people/gov millions of dollars and can save lives. So I would like to do research on the importance of preventive care, the types of

As a student in the BUSI 440 course I have found myself really enjoying and looking forward to the assignments. During the first weeks of the course, we were assigned to read over two articles explaining why internships matter. While reading such articles I noticed how much I agreed with the information, in “The Positive Implications of Internships on Early Career Outcomes” the author Nathalie Saltikoff brought up the point that students graduating with internship experiences in general are more likely than students without experiences to find employment. This statement made me realize how important internships truly are. If I look back at my past internship and work experiences, I notice that I was able to expand my networking circle and improve my thought process.…

How would you evaluate your professional growth and progress toward becoming a school counselor throughout your internship experience? I feel that my internship has provided me with the experience that I needed in order to grow as a professional school counselor. The internship gave me the opportunity to practice my skills that I have been learning throughout my master’s program. It has also given me more confidence in my skills as I was given more responsibilities as I got further into my internship. In addition, my internship gave me beneficial information specific to my site and state that will support my counseling.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

This semester I did my last internship at Millers Children Hospital in Long Beach. I have learned how to maintain myself professional, learn how to work with different type of people and overall learn how to communicate with patients and give them and their family the support they need. The patients at Millers Children hospital are children that have cancer and some are there for other reason. Being at Miller I learned how to maintain myself neutral, professional, and how to advocate for my patients, and compromise with some of my patients. Miller has four playrooms that provide toys, art activities and one on one interaction with the patients.…

The professional book that I chose to read was “The American Health Care Paradox: why spending more is getting us less” wrote by Elizabeth H. Bradley and Lauren A. Taylor. In this book the authors demonstrate how American is spending more in health care but have poorer health outcome compare to other industrialized countries especially the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Denmark and Norway). After interviewing different people in the medical field, the authors believe firmly that America will have better health outcomes if the government invest more in social services such as education, employment, training, housing, etc.… This does not imply that spending in health care is a wrong doing, it just means that social services and the health care…

One strength I can improve on to be an outstanding intern is to be less introverted when introducing myself to people. I think this will help me become a better intern because my internship may require me to talk to all types of people. I can also improve on my confidence because it will help me succeed at my internship. Also if I get an internship at Howling Woods Farm, I believe my confidence will be beneficial to me being an exceptional intern. Being organized is another strength I can improve because I could be working with wolves/wolfdogs and I would need to know information in case they get adopted.…

As such I see preventative medicine as means for improving overall health conditions and reducing those obstacles or hindrances that may pose as a barrier towards obtaining health or health related services. The passing of my grandmother in Nigeria while trying to obtain life saving yet simple equipment, gave me a real life view of the problems faced by communities with significant health care needs but with limited access to healthcare services or resources. I see preventative medicine as a medium for helping me to develop and guide my strong interest in international health thus allowing me to create sustainable health initiatives in underserved areas both locally and globally. I am also interested in developing ways to improve health literacy throughout various communities.…

Midterm paper My managerial internship with W.S. Badcock corporation this summer so far has been an essential learning experience in the working world. Overall my time this summer has been enjoyable, albeit tedious and repetitive. My co-workers and supervisors are all pleasant and reasonable, and I feel well respected throughout the company; however, my status of intern is made evident on a regular basis. My jobs revolve entirely around preparing, shipping, and installing components for a major credit card machine (CCM) rollout. Badcock, like all companies, is required to update their CCM system in order to meet Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards by 2017 to avoid major fines.…

As far as my performance in my internship goes, I hope I was able to impress Steven and Shanna and help them out instead of hinder them this semester. In my opinion I feel like I was able to help because I always did what was asked of me and they knew they could rely on me. I was at every class and meeting unless something else for school came up, so I feel like I lived up to what I told them I was going to do at the beginning of the semester. I think my main growth from this internship happened not only in me seeing my leadership styles more clearly, but in my confidence in speaking as well. I always get extremely nervous before I have to talk in front of a group before anything, no matter what.…

Internship is as much of a learning experience as it is the first real taste of being a teacher. The theories and mock-lesson plans learned and created at the college level are truly put to the test when facing twenty to twenty-five real students within the classroom. For me, nerves have never really been an issue, stuttering or rambling within the classroom has not been a problem either. Instead, planning and sticking to the plan has been the main area of focus. The first lesson I taught was during the last week of August, when both the classroom and the students were still very new to me.…
