Most of the clients really need routine and really value having schedule that they must follow. When there is a change, even a minor one, clients tend to negatively react. They may become non-compliant, refuse to follow their schedule and disrupt other clients’ work. Case managers may even be called into the room to intervene in the situation, when the client severely escalates. The Mercy Centre has had several staff members’ leave in the recent months and have not found replacements, which has cause some disruption in the client’s schedules. Clients’ miss these staff members because they had formed close relationships. There is an additional emotion in play, as most of the clients no longer live with their families, so the Mercy Centre has been their constant for so many years. They have come to rely on seeing and interacting with the staff, so when a member leaves, it is difficult for the clients to accept the change. Another problem that arises when a staff member leaves is the end of a certain workshop or job site. If a staff person is in charge of and leads a particular workshop, like book club, the workshop will end until they find a replacement. Another staff person cannot take on the workshop because they have their own schedules. This also happens to work sites because a staff person must transport them
