Nursing has been around for a very long time. To be successful in any career, you must know the job position, duties and responsibilities. Most (CNA) training programs last about eight weeks. The pay is average, and doesn’t change much, even though some CNA’s have been in the field longer than others. There are many duties that are expected from the CAN and some require good physical ability, as well as, certain characteristics that would make me good for the job.…
Hi, Rachel. Yes, as stated in my post there was a protocol in place where the nurse was supposed to take a wheelchair to the admissions department to pick up the patient, however, because she was an agency nurse she was unaware of the process. I think if the process that was in place had been followed, this issue might have been avoided.…
I personally have not had any direct interaction with the Kansas State Board of Nursing. During my senior year of high school I obtained my certified nursing assistant license, which I have only had to renew once. My current job at Overland Park Regional Medical Center does not enforce that I have to reinstate my license since I am currently in nursing school pursing my degree. With graduation coming up soon I am sure all of us will have communication with the BON (Board of Nursing) before we know it.…
Becoming a nurse was not something I always knew I wanted to do. I knew that I wanted to have a career in the medical field due to the opportunity for innovations in health care and the challenges for improvement. It was not until my mother’s struggle with breast cancer that becoming a nurse became my mission. As a young child at my mom's bedside, I would watch her nurses as they took care of her. To me, they were pillars of compassion, strength, and advocacy that inspired me to pursue nursing.…
My response to this selection is that Hornak made right decision, even though it took her long time to realize, but it would be hard for me If I were to change my career. It would be hard for me because I know I spent a lot time to study and it costs me a lot too. But I personally believe that we all need money, but I would also want to pick the major that I would enjoy in and which would make me proud. For instance, I like to help others…
As an eighteen year old it’s sometimes hard to think about your life time goals, especially when your life has only begun. But you can dream and strive to achieve the most drastic of lifetime goals. My lifetime goal is to become a successful forensic anthropologist maintaining my connection to music that I currently have. For the past seven years of my life I have been a part of an intense band program while maintaining an AB academic average and that experience, along with my academic experience of taking advanced courses all while staying in touch with the musical side of the world, is what’s going to help me achieve this lifetime goal. Being a part of a rigorous band program where success is all that we strive toward, all the while maintaining suitable grades in my advanced classes is what’s going to give me the foundation to start my life on.…
Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. Two of these careers involve quantitative thinking and mathematical skills, while the third career involves enforcing laws and regulations and working outdoors. Due to my interest in working outdoors I have chosen conservation officer as the best career opportunity for me. The first job I researched is a cost estimator. I researched this job because it involves mathematical skills on a daily basis.…
Hi Ms. Sanders, Prior to my current role as a patient safety analyst, I worked as an oncology nurse in the outpatient radiation oncology department at the cancer center of the hospital. As an oncology nurse, my primary role is to be the patient advocate with regards to treatment information and symptom management. One ethical issue that always concerns me is informed consent. I see informed consent not just the patient signing his/her name on the dotted line. It is having answers to questions that the patient may have or ought to have.…
I am proud to say that I found my purpose in life. Being a nurse is my calling and it is a privilege. I am called to nursing and found it so meaningful and enjoyable to work and serve the public. I have enough compassion for my patients. I believe I was suited for this.…
My career goals are to be successful and to change the current status of women around the world. This would not be easy as many have tried, but I believe that technology will be able to change the lives of many. I developed these goals through experiences with narrow-minded family members that do not believe that I am able to achieve all the I have because I am of the female…

On Wednesday 29th April 2014, I was assigned to the same four patients I had the day prior. One of my patients was admitted for sepsis of the R) knee following a total knee joint replacement two months prior. He was a 67 year old Maori gentleman, MRSA positive with a history of gout, hypertension, GORD, bilateral total hip joint replacements and R) sided weakness following a MVA in 2011. During handover, it was stated to us that this patient was due to have his IVABs at both 1300 and 1400. When I saw the times, I thought something was slightly odd as I recalled one of his antibiotics was given early morning the day prior and is a 12 hourly antibiotic.…

One day I want to be a pediatric physician; achieving a bachelors degree is one of the paths to becoming a physician. I chose nursing because I love people. I love the moments I share with people, whether they are bad or good. I enjoy having a direct impact on people lives by sharing experiences, giving advice and words of encouragement, and providing help when in need. In doing so, I feel a sense of peace, joy, and accomplishment when given the chance to impact people in a positive way.…
