1. Because I lack a formal education, my job options are restricted. I spent the better part of my married life as a stay at home mom while working part time jobs mainly for the social aspect. I spent years donating my talents and my efforts to my children’s school PTO by raising thousands of dollars and overseeing the execution of various projects and events for the school. (As president I raised $18,000.00 in one fund raiser totaling over $25,000.00 in one school year with all fundraisers combined) And even though I did not work for wages or attend college during the years I actively participated in PTO, I did gain loads of leadership and team work experience as well as developed many personal connections that have proved beneficial in other …show more content…
Im sure according to many like Bill O'riley, America has and is doing enough and if we cant improve our situations then its our own fault. I agree with that in terms of meaning personal fortitude has a lot to do with the ability to self improve but, once a person is in the cycle of poverty, getting out isn't as easy as getting a better job. Also that cycle perpetrates the recreation of that cycle in future generations. Poverty is systemic. You cannot eradicate it with only superficial treatments, it has to be a multi-pronged approach and would take years to actualize. That will create a quality human capital to maintain high production. We need to provide free preventative health care to all Americans including birth control regardless of religion and dispel the notion that sex is for marriage ONLY. Preventative treatment is cheaper than combating say cervical cancer and birth control is cheaper than birthing a human being. Let us also address the fact that Arkansas has a teen birth rate that is 70% higher than the rest of the US as reported in by a January of 2015 article in thecitywire.com. Women and children are more likely to live in poverty and teen pregnancy is proven to reduce a woman’s chance to earn a living. I could go on, but addressing these two issues would make a huge improvement on number of woman living in

Life is like a game of poker. In poker everyone is dealt the same number of cards from the same deck. Some are lucky and get a Royal Flush, some get a Straight, and some are only given a hand which consists of a High Card. Life is the same way except instead of diamonds; clubs; spades and hearts, everyone is dealt a certain level of “education, income, occupation, and wealth, the four commonly used criteria for gauging [social] class” (Scott and Leonhardt 117). Not all of us are able to choose our education, income, occupation and wealth, we are just given our hand and we have to make do with what we have.…
