Personal Narrative: A Career In The Beauty Industry

I chose to get a career in the the beauty industry because I wanted a career that allowed me to express myself in a creative way. As a child I was very involved with theater, which allowed me to bring characters from musicals and stage productions to life. I mostly worked behind the scenes doing the actor and actress's hair and makeup. Then as a teenager, I took my skill up a level- Cosplay. Cosplaying is sort of like acting but on a whole other playing field. Instead of recreating musical characters, I was now focusing mostly on characters from cartoons and anime. While learning how to recreate all these characters I learned that little details are important. It is true that the most viewed parts of these looks are the hair and makeup, but you also learn that you can skip the little details. This is how I got into nails. It can be something as simple as cleaning all the nails up and giving a clear coat, or something elaborate like a whole set with intricate designs. No matter the deal is, things like this matter. After all, it can make or break a photo or movie scene. (Ie, you it would probably look strange for little orphan Annie to be on the streets and bend in to pick up something, and just as the camera zooms in you notice that her nails are perfectly painted and stiletto. The fans would be all over that costuming department in a heartbeat.) In conclusion, my career means so much to me. It's a way to be creative and bring joy, not only to the people who are being made up, but also to the people who get to view the work. Every little detail counts- from the wig or hair, to the eyelashes, to the nails- nothing can be forgotten. Especially nails, when those can make or break a character within a single shot. I love being in the cosmetology industry and honestly can't see myself in any other type of
