It’s the 2012 NBA playoffs. The Chicago Bulls are playing the Philadelphia

76ers. There’s one minute and twenty-two seconds left on the clock and Derrick Rose

drives in and performs a hop-step. He comes down on to the hardwood squirming in

agony and pain. The reigning MVP has torn his ACL in his left leg. This damage

ultimately leads to the defeat of the bulls in the first round of the Eastern Conference

playoffs.

If not obvious enough, sports are a very big part of who I am. It has always been a

way to bond with friends, let out feelings of aggressiveness, and put my urges of

competition to good use. For the most part, sports have always been very recreational for

me. I never played on a high school team nor have I ever wanted to. My

The many different subjects I have learned

as part of the medical academy constantly interest me. I enjoy the thought of working on

human cadavers. I am excited by the simple task of taking the pulse of another person. I

am interested in the different stains that are performed on different types of cells to

examine them. But what interests me the most, is the subject of Sports Medicine. The

idea of working with young children, to veteran athletes along with being able to practice

the art of medicine excites me more than anything. Its almost as if it is the best possible

compromise between the two things I have grown to and will continue to love.

My knowledge in the basics of anatomy, biology, principles of health science, and

medical terminology have given me a head start over many students in pursuing my

goals. I have been given more than the bare minimum and it will prove worthy in the long

run. My interest in these subjects will give me the capacity to understand and apply these

subjects when I move deeper into my education, even beyond undergraduate studies.

When asked what idea or concept captivates me I instantly go medical. As long as I could possibly remember, I’ve always had a love for all things medical. From as young as the age of seven I knew I wanted to be a Pediatric Cardiologist, though at the time I used to call it a “baby heart doctor”. Unlike normal little girls playing with Barbie’s or teddy bears, I was running around the house with my dollar store stethoscope trying to find anything with a heartbeat. When my sister was born, she was born with a major hole in her heart, undergoing extensive surgeries to repair her heart.…
