Personal Narrative: A Career In Soccer During The Summer

My past few summers consisted of staying up all night, watching television, then sleeping during the day. It was a fun way to spend my summers, but it wasn’t satisfying. So, when the idea of spending three days a week, for eight weeks, playing soccer during the summer became a possibility, I had an odd feeling of motivation. Early into 2016, my interest in soccer was relit. Perhaps I wanted to be more like my brother, who’s serious in obtaining a career in professional soccer. Nonetheless, I chose soccer over a summer of going to bed late in the morning. Wanting to reintroduce myself to the sport, I played recreational soccer in the spring, successfully giving me the desire to improve further. The filled out sign-up form lay flat on the table in front me. I asked Jorge about when to give the form to Mr. Puma, the head coach of the camp. Telling me to go as soon as possible, I went upstairs during lunch, joined by him, to deliver the form. However, we saw Mr. Puma teaching a class and I didn’t want to interrupt, so we went back to the cafeteria. There was an extra bit of responsibility for me as I also had to hand in my younger brother’s form and it was the last day forms could be turned on. Once the bell rang, I decided I was going to give him the forms before going to my next period. As I walked up the stairs in the commons, a feeling of anxiety grew stronger for some reason. I opened Mr. Puma’s classroom door, entering the room for the first time in my life. There, in the upper right corner of the room from the door’s view, was Mr. Puma, sitting at a desk with his head facing papers. As I walked, it was almost as if I was forcing myself to keep moving, as I figured I was already this far. Passing desks and people, I heard mumbles and conversations I couldn’t quite make out.
